Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek Gets Awesome Parody Trailer

The moment we heard that Quentin Tarantino was going to be doing a Star Trek movie we should have expected a parody trailer to come along. From the cheesy but vintage 70’s music to the idea that the crew of the Enterprise could become a bunch of thuggish hitmen out to prove a point or just mess someone up, that’s what people are really expecting from Tarantino. And why not? All of his films thus far have had that element in them that made fans go gaga over his method and have been waiting for each and every movie that’s slated to come out under his name. That’s the whole charm of a Tarantino movie after all.

Of course one can’t help but wonder what Star Trek fans are thinking right now and whether or not they’re going to upset their precious sense of balance and refuse to see a movie made by Tarantino. Of course a lot of them could be fans of both and might be excited to see what could come of this. It’s been a while since we saw any great amount of blood in a Star Trek movie, in fact I’m sure there has been some for effect, but the last real bloodbath I can remember is all the way back in the fifth movie, Undiscovered Country. Then there was blood all over the place, but it was bubblegum pink since it belonged to klingons.

Given that J.J. Abrams would be producing I wonder how far he’d allow Tarantino to go with this movie and if he’d allow anything that’s been seen in Quentin’s movies thus far. Can you imagine the racial insults if they were allowed? People are going nuts trying to theorize just what could happen with a Tarantino-directed Star Trek film, and personally I think it’s hilarious. I might see it if the thing ever makes it to the theater, but I’d certainly wait for the movie to come out on iTunes or On Demand. Sorry, I’m a Star Wars fan, so this is insanely funny for me to think about since until Tarantino sets his sights on a galaxy far, far away I’m going to enjoy watching what he does to “space, the final frontier”.

Honestly though I think Abrams might rein him in a bit since Star Trek isn’t all about blood, guts, and a continual line of vulgarity and swearing that seems to be the norm for a Tarantino film. That might do more than upset the fans, it might be just as bad as when someone thought that George Lazenby was a good fit for a Bond movie. In other words with the space/time continuum already messed up in this newest version of Star Trek it could be that if the Tarantino film doesn’t pan out they could always ditch it and claim that it wasn’t a part of the overall canon, just an ill-advised attempt by someone that didn’t quite know the franchise well enough. But if it does well then you know there’s a chance he could do another one.
