It doesn’t seem that long ago that Oprah Winfrey said her goodbyes from her daytime talk show. While some thought that Winfrey would slow down, this has hardly been the case. In 2011 she founded (with her own money) a cable network known as “OWN” (Oprah Winfrey Network). This network has become one of the fastest growing cable networks for women, achieving its highest rated and most watched year in network history in 2016.
Along with running her own network, Winfrey has also made numerous television appearances including an “exit interview” of sorts for Michelle Obama that aired recently. Now you can expect to see Oprah Winfrey on 60 Minutes in the near future. Oprah has signed on to be a special contributor and will be on television this for the first time this Sunday evening.
“There is only one Oprah Winfrey,” said Jeff Fager the news magazine’s executive producer. “She has achieved excellence in everything she has touched. Her body of work is extraordinary, including thousands of interviews with people from all walks of life. She is a remarkable and talented woman with a level of integrity that sets her apart and makes her a perfect fit for 60 Minutes. I am thrilled that she will be bringing her unique and powerful voice to our broadcast.”
“I’ve been a big admirer of 60 Minutes since my days as a young reporter,” said Winfrey. “I’m so excited and proud to join forces with this historic news program, which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling. At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds.”
Oprah hosted her talk show for 25 years and in that span changed millions of lives. Harpo Production, her company, went on to produce shows like Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz and Rachel Ray, among others. If there’s one thing left for Oprah to accomplish it’s gotta be “Oprah 2020.” Right? Seriously, what else can this woman accomplish?
