There are loads of stories about famous actors and musicians struggling before they finally got their big breaks. Often times people in the entertainment field take odd jobs such as restaurant server, administrative assistant, telemarketing, even going door to door (and many others) to pay the rent while they attempt to break out in their respective fields. One such celebrity who has a particularly interesting story is Nicki Minaj.
Most people know Nicki Minaj as the world’s most successful female rapper and icon. Minaj is known for her unapologetic attitude, commitment to her fans, and crazy sense of style. However, before she was the Nicki Minaj we all know now, Minaj worked at Red Lobster to pay the bills. But that’s not all. At the age of 19, as she struggled with her acting career and during her short time at Red Lobster in the Bronx, she was fired for discourtesy to customers. She said she was fired from “at least fifteen jobs” for similar reasons. She also worked as an administrative assistant in customer service and as an office manager for a Wall Street business.
Little did anyone know that Minaj was never destined to do what she was doing. One thing’s for sure: Minaj never took any crap from anyone and always stayed true to herself. Unfortunately that mode of thinking never works in an odd job but it sure works for her now.
Minaj is proof that you need to stick to your guns and stay true to who you are. It doesn’t always work out the way it has for Minaj but it’s certainly better than living a lie.
