This new Taco Bell that’s opened up in China is bringing back visions Demolition Man with Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. If you don’t remember the movie take a look at the clip below and drink it all in. In the movie Taco Bell was the only fast food chain to survive the franchise wars and as a result they took over the industry. Now I like a good taco every now and then but something about Taco Bell taking over doesn’t seem like it would sit very well. This place in China though looks positively swanky, as though the franchise decided to plunk a few extra thousand or more into the place and upgrade it to the specs that they might like to see in the rest of their restaurants. There’s just one problem with that, to do that they’d have to inevitably raise the prices.
Taco Bell isn’t dirt cheap like it used to be, but then again nothing really is. I can recall back in the day when I could stroll into a Taco Bell with $20 in hand and stroll out with a sack full of good stuff that would last me for at least two meals or more. Nowadays that much money is just about gone when you purchase a couple of their big ticket items. This place in China, as you can see from the link, features delicacies that are only available in-country but also goes into greater detail with their drinks and even offers alcohol. Have you ever noticed how many other places in the world offer alcohol in locations that Americans would never think of expecting such a thing? If beer was offered in our Taco Bells there’d be people losing their mind over it. As it is beer in the theater finally became a common thing just a handful of years ago.
But really if the idea of this doesn’t disturb you at all then don’t allow this article to either. The only downside I see is that if Taco Bell did happen to follow this model for the rest of its restaurants, and there are many, MANY across the US alone, then their prices would go up without a doubt to cover the cost of the upgrades, and at that point the fate of the franchise might be in question. People visit Taco Bell about as readily as they do many other fast food joints, but if it was to raise its prices in accordance with its standards then those that come for a cheap meal might find somewhere else to go, and business would suffer more than people seem to realize.
If anyone doubts how many people living on fixed or low income go to Taco Bell then they’d be advised to spend a day in one and see how many people come in per meal. You might be surprised to learn that while fast food isn’t the cheapest thing out there anymore that it’s still greatly desired for its convenience and the fact that it’s addictive. It’s not that great for you to begin with but it’s there, it’s quick, and it’s easy to obtain.
That tends to be how people like it when it comes to fast food.
