New Documentary Explores the Inevitable Future Role of Sex Robots

It’s not enough that AI and robotics are exploring the future, but now we’re talking about sex robots and how they’re going to change things. Does no one else see a problem with this? AI itself has already been seen in various films to be a dangerous thing, especially if the final goal is to give them self-awareness. There’s something to be said for the human aspect of things that seems to be going by the wayside little by little. Humanity is messy, it is difficult, and it is troublesome at times. The sex robot seems like it can be something readily made for those that just can’t interact with humanity on the same level, but it’s also kind of, well, sad in a way.

A person would be having sex with a lump of metal covered by fake skin with a large number of sensors installed to give the idea that they ‘feel’ anything and can anticipate when the person is close to finishing their business. That’s just disturbing since the next thing after this you can imagine will be what amount to real interactions and emotions that will essentially make the AI an unpredictable and possibly more human machine. Is that really what we need? It’s almost like people haven’t seen films like The Terminator, The Matrix, or even Blade Runner. Every time in the movies when humanity thinks they’re taking a huge step forward with AI it seems that something goes wrong and the control that people thought they had slips out of their grip as quickly as they attained it. Why in the world would humans think it’s okay to make a programmed robot that can sense things and possibly slip free of its robotic bonds? At this point it’s going to take a Terminator-level event it seems for anyone to get the point.

Sex robots however seem kind of perverse in a way but there are likely a lot of people that would at least try it just to say they’d done it. The creator in this film is very candid about it but his wife, bless her anyway, looks at it as just part of the job. That’s a very understanding person that would look at their husband’s actions with a robot as nothing more than work-related. The morality of what they’re doing isn’t the full picture however, it’s the idea that they think they’re making an affordable love doll for those that want the experience. Has anyone ever seen what these things cost? Just doing some quick research reveals that they’re typically going for thousands of dollars apiece. How is that affordable to the average person? It’s a definite case of ‘to each their own’ but the creation of sex bots is one that’s a little bit disturbing, not to mention creepy in a way when you hear them talk. If that’s a turn-on to those that buy them then so be it, but yikes.

Let’s not pass judgment right now, but it still seems like a bad way to go with AI.
