To date, no other movie has brought in more money that James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi hit Avatar. Grossing over $2 billion worldwide, no movie has yet to come that close. When it comes to domestic gross, Avatar did nearly $800 million in sales. Many would consider this film to be the most successful movie financially by terms of overall gross, but is this truly the case? What about inflation? Turns out there are 14 movies out there that are more successful than Avatar if you accounted for the rise and fall in the value of currency. Surprisingly a film from 1939 made the top of the list.
