Even before I put my fingers to the keyboard I got goosebumps knowing I was going to see and share this clip. It’s what I consider to be the best baseball movie of all-time (other than Major League) and many won’t disagree with me on this. One of the hardest things about any sports movie is making an inevitable outcome still exciting. You know Rocky’s always going to win. You know that in a football movie the teams gonna win it on that final touchdown. And you know in a baseball movie the team you are rooting for is going to pull of an improbable victory.
But what makes a sports movie effective is the how. How did they do it and how many surprises did the movie throw at us to keep us captivated? The Natural was brilliant in setting up a scene we all knew was coming but it hit us just as hard despite our knowledge. I don’t need to get into the specifics of the movie. If you’ve seen it you know how incredible it is. If you haven’t it’s one of the best baseball movies let alone sports movies of all-time.
