Big Little Lies is a HBO drama based on the book of the same name. However, it is interesting to note that there are some significant differences between the book and the TV show, which is why a second season has become possible. After all, the book came to a conclusion with Bonnie turning herself in after she pushed Perry to his death when she saw him attacking his wife Celeste. In contrast, the first season of the TV show came to a conclusion with the women who saw what happened choosing to conceal the truth for the purpose of protecting Bonnie, which was considered in the book but never carried out because of Bonnie’s choice. As a result, there is the potential for further seasons of Big Little Lies, which is particularly interesting because the TV show is now off of the rails laid out for it.
Of course, it should be mentioned that there is the commercial potential for further seasons as well. Viewer-wise, Big Little Lies actually did better as the seven episodes of the first season came out, meaning that there were more people tuning in to watch the finale than there were people tuning in to watch the premiere. Furthermore, it must be mentioned that Big Little Lies was much loved by the critics, as shown by the fact that it has walked away with multiple Emmys, multiple Golden Globes, and numerous other awards and other accolades. Combined, these characteristics ensured a second season, which came as welcome news to those who watched Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and others on the screen with interest. Now, news for the second season is coming out, which is why we know that Meryl Streep will be showing up in it as well.
Currently, we know a fair amount about Streep’s character, though we cannot predict with certainty what she might do. In short, Streep will be playing a character named Mary Louise Wright, who is the mother of Perry Wright. The character is said to be concerned about her grandchildren’s well-being in the wake of her son’s death, which is why she is visiting for the purpose of seeking answers. As a result, it will be interesting to see how she interacts with Celeste as well as the other members of the main cast, particularly since Jane became a single mother because she was raped by Perry who was using someone else’s name at the time.
Besides, this, there are some other interesting bits of news as well. For example, there is a suggestion that Alexander Skarsgard could be reprising his role as Perry, which could mean a couple of things. First, it could mean that his character survived the incident. Second, it could mean that the second season will be exploring the background of Celeste’s relationship with Perry as seen in the first season. The second seems particularly likely because Witherspoon has revealed that the second season will be looking into the unexplored stories of the main characters, meaning that Celeste’s background would make a natural choice. Regardless, interested individuals should be able to expect more of the same content that drew them to Big Little Lies in the first place, which should make for interesting viewing once the second season is released.
