It’s a little difficult to think what villainous role Matt Damon could play in the next Spider-Man movie but it also doesn’t matter since he turned it down. Right now the anticipation of the movie is kind of hard to come by since it will be coming out after Avengers 4 and will be taking place right on the heels of that movie. Since we haven’t even gotten to Infinity War quite yet it should be some time until we get to theorizing just who the next villain is and how hard Spidey’s life is going to get yet again. As we already saw in the ending of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter might have a lot of explaining to do since Aunt May saw him in his suit and will no doubt want some answers.
May came close to finding out about Peter’s secret identity a few times in the past but the secret has largely eluded her until now. What might come of it in the next few movies in which we see Spider-Man could be interesting but what’s really important at the moment is juts which villain Spider-Man will be taking on in the next movie. He’s already taken on and dealt with the Vulture, which was not his first enemy but was one of his deadliest. The Chameleon is credited as being one of the very first enemies that Spidey had to deal with, and the Green Goblin is of course the most iconic of the bunch since Spider-man tangled with him on multiple occasions. Venom would be a no-go right now as there might be trouble with the Tom Hardy movie if that was made an option, but Carnage could possibly be a contender. Of course Sandman might always come back as he was one of Spider-Man’s most versatile enemies and usually caused a few problems.
Mysterio is also an option, as is Kraven, or the Lizard, or even the Kingpin or other enemies that Spidey has made over the years. There’s been no shortage of enemies for Spider-Man and he’s even contended with a few superheroes throughout his time just based on their different viewpoints. In fact he’s even had a run-in with the likes of Wolverine, Daredevil, and of course the Punisher now and again, but he’s usually been friendly at least with Daredevil. There’s a long list of villains for Spider-Man to face, and while some of them have been done quite well in recent movies others have been given such horrible outings that it might be time to bring them back and see what can be done with them. Or maybe it’ll be time to move on and play with a few of the more outdated villains that haven’t had any play except in the comics. Just don’t bring back guys like Paste-Pot Pete or Stiltman, that’s all the fans are asking. Make it someone that actually gives Spider-Man a run for his money so that the film will be interesting.
Another fun note is that Iron Man won’t be there for this movie, which could mean dire things are ahead for certain members of the MCU.
