Your favorite cooking duo have released a promo for the upcoming season of “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party” and it’s amazing. In case you didn’t know they had a show or if you need to be reminded why you love the unlikely cooking twosome so much, you need to check this out. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to food television.
In the promotional clip, which Stewart shared on her Instagram, Stewart and Dogg pay homage to that iconic scene from Ghost. They hilariously recreate the famous romantic pottery wheel scene from the movie starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. While the Righteous Brothers croon in the background the improbable double act get steamy in an entertaining take on the classic scene from Ghost. The sexy spoof is mind-blowing.
The clip opens with Stewart in a dimly lit room. She cracks an egg into a blender which she turns on. The camera teases and lingers close as America’s legendary home-maker unbuttons her collared white shirt in a provocative manner. She then begins to frost a rotating cake, swapping the clay on the pottery wheel in the original scene for a chocolate cake. “Unchained Melody” plays in the background as Snoop Dogg slinks in wearing a bandanna and white tank. He slips in behind Martha as she continues spinning and icing the cake. He gets very cosy behind her and the pair lick fingers suggestively. We can just say that what follows is sensual and messy. The scene is in equal measure; hot, cringe making and side-splittingly funny. Oh and spoiler alert, they ruin a perfectly good cake.
The pair have been unlikely friends since 2008, when he first appeared on her show. The friendship is a testament to an optimistic outlook on life that you simply never know when you are going to make a new and unexpected friend and how having them in your life will enrich you. Neither it must be said is in the first flush of youth or the first iteration of their career and the show is a success.
No doubt the promotional video will fuel rumors that they are, or about to, start dating. They deny this, of course, and insist that their relationship is strictly professional. But leaving aside their improbable prospective romance, the video is deliciously subversive at its heart. Their adorable and unconventional friendship debunks and challenges many racial and age stereo types. Many eyebrows have been raised at their alliance and there have been unkind taunts linking their closeness to Stewart’s time in prison. Dogg also takes some ribbing. Their collaboration and this video is a great way to respond playfully.
The hit show blends cookery, chat and comedy and features celebrity guests and great music. You can watch it when it premières on VH1 on October 16. Refreshingly neither the show nor it’s hosts seem inclined to take themselves too seriously. They promise to be fun to watch as Stewart is wonderfully wholesome and Dogg is delightfully mischievous. One thing we can guarantee, they have great chemistry and it seems share a whimsical sense of humor.
