Lucifer: Mama Morningstar is on the Loose and Maze Reappears

Lucifer

Oh my God (sorry, Lucifer). I haven’t laughed this hard since I watched an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. This second season of Lucifer is going to be just as great as the first! Keep up the great work, Lucifer writers!

The opening scene with Lucifer and Amenadiel looking for their mother and mistook a jewellery thief for her was priceless. Lucifer used his Devil powers on the man only to realize moments later that said man is not Mama Morningstar. The freeze face that Amenadiel did when the archangel stopped time made me laugh till my cheeks were sore. That and the part where Lucifer put a tiara on the thief’s head and stripped him down to his underwear and tied his shoelaces together. I love you, show.

We then meet the new medical examiner, Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia), who reminds me of a grown up version of Trixie when she hugged Lucifer when he introduced himself to her. She, much like Chloe, doesn’t believe that Lucifer is the Devil despite the fact that she is a woman of faith. The young lady thought that he was a method actor which made me snicker.

The scene where Lucifer went to visit Amy, the young actress, made me face-palm. Sure, it could be a possibility that Mama Morningstar would want to make herself look young, but Amy’s not her. I enjoyed watching Lucifer squirm when Amy threw herself at him and started to undress him. Guess the Devil draws the line at incest. Remind you of another piano-playing, alcohol drinking playboy that we all know? I tried to hide my laughter when Lucifer told Chloe when she came into Amy’s trailer that for the first time, it’s not what it looks like. Of course, it isn’t, Lucifer, of course, it isn’t.

I was a bit confused when Amenadiel’s time freeze ability stopped working after a while. Could it be that he’s distraught over finding his mother and that Maze, who reappeared after doing some soul-searching with none other than Dr. Martin, wanted to distance herself from him? Either way, I feel for him and hope that Maze comes around soon. I also give him credit for trying to convince Chloe that Lucifer is not who he says he is when the archangel shot himself (while wearing a bulletproof vest and a blood packet) to drive the point home.

The detective still doesn’t buy it as she later revealed to Lucifer towards the end of the episode. We then see Chloe take out a vial of Lucifer’s blood from her desk drawer. I wondered for a moment that she wants to test the blood despite Amenadiel’s efforts. Then I saw her throw the test tube in the trash can and was both surprised and impressed at the same time.

Another amusing moment in this episode was when Lucifer tried to take on Roberta, the person who killed Gillian, the victim. Chloe came in just before Roberta could choke Lucifer to death and tasered the woman. Lucifer then pressed the Taser gun when he composed himself and Roberta started flopping like a large fish. Hilarious!

Hearing Tom Ellis sing again after waiting so long for season two was very nice. Maybe he should consider doing a Broadway musical production if he gets the chance. That or he can have a sing-off with Wolverine himself. I’m also curious if the lady that came out of the elevator is Mama Morningstar. Shame we have to wait two weeks for the second episode. Why, show, why?!
