Lucifer: Detective Douche Tries Stand-up. Marcus’s Past Revealed.

Lucifer

It’s not that uncommon for people pursuing the arts to take the work of someone else, change it, and present it as their own. Designers take from other designers; writers take from other writers, etc. On tonight’s episode of Lucifer, it seems that someone doesn’t like it when other people steal from them. Devil included, of course.

The case of the week centered around a dead comedian named J.D. Woodstock. The struggling comic met a gruesome end after posting a video saying that Bobby Lowe, a more well-known and successful comic, stole his jokes. Guess he didn’t exactly consult the greats on this one. Then again, I don’t think the greats have heard of him given that he’s just a fictional character.

We also get an insight into Lieutenant Pierce’s past. It seems that he has been tracking The Sinnerman for quite some time. The latter even killed someone close to the good lieutenant. I guess it’s either a partner or a family member. It’s usually the case with crime dramas. The bad guy always goes for someone that the protagonist cares deeply for, hitting them where it hurts so to speak. I still wonder what else can be uncovered about the new boss of the homicide division? What can be used as his kryptonite?

Coming back to the case turns out that Bobby Lowe did steal J.D’s jokes for his show (duh). The comic also took jokes from his warm-up comic Sheila, who is the real killer of J.D. The woman was in hysterics when Bobby told her that he wants to quit the show. Lucifer managed to get her to confess before a dropped sandbag (thanks to Detective Decker) distracted her and he then punched her in the face.

In the end, justice is served, and the Devil is back. Sort of. Lucifer spoke with Dr. Martin about The Sinnerman and his wings, which grew right back after he had hacked them off for the third time. He once again misinterpreted the therapist’s words and decided to hand out favors to as many people as possible. Lucifer, when are you ever going to learn?

Side Notes:

After watching the somewhat steamy opening scene, which doesn’t quite measure up to the Deckerstar make-out dream, I don’t think that I will ever listen to Down by Marion Hill the same way ever again. Though the “premature unfurling” comment made me giggle.

During the scene at the comedy club, Lucifer somehow got his hands on some tomatoes and threw them at Detective Espinoza. How did he get them? Does the club serve food? If not, then The Flash must have come by because no one gets a handful of tomatoes that fast. Oh, and Luci-boy? Stand-up comedy and improv are two very different things! I could barely watch the scene where Detective Espinoza tried his hand at stand-up.

I felt extreme sympathy for Ella. She looked up to Bobby Lowe only to learn that he stole his comedic material from the victim. Sometimes the people that we look up to aren’t always what they seem to be. I laughed at her poorly hidden attempt to go along with Lucifer and Chloe to question Bobby Lowe at his set, which strangely reminds me of an episode of CSI where the team had to investigate a murder on a set for a show.

Amenadiel also deserves some sympathy in this episode. He had to burn Lucifer’s wings in what Dr. Martin called an “angel wings dumpster fire.” The revelation he had about Lucifer being his test from God is an intriguing one. Perhaps his Father is telling him to be the big brother that he is and look after Lucifer.

Amusing moment: Maze thought The Sinnerman is Cinnamon. Hysterical! Oh, and the puppet’s Dr. Who comment to Lucifer? Good one! It’s funny because Tom Ellis played a police officer (correct me if I’m wrong) on the hit BBC series.

I completely agreed with Lt. Pierce when he told Lucifer that The Sinnerman is smart and calculative. The Devil, on the other hand, is impulsive, short-fused, and an idiot. His reaction to the lieutenant’s comment pretty much says it all.
