It barely sounds like James Franco answering The Disaster Artist Billboard phone number but it’s him. His attempt to sound like Tommy Wiseau is fair but doesn’t have quite the same pitch and tone. If you hear the two of them speak then you’d know that there is a huge difference between their voices. Yet now that he’s come out with his own film called The Disaster Movie as a lead-in, or homage, or something to The Room, Franco took it upon himself to answer several calls that were phoned in to the number on the billboard. This is perhaps one of the strangest things I’ve seen yet in regards to a film as it should be thought of as a giant joke unless the name of a particular theater and the promotion is printed on the billboard along with the movie poster.
The fact that Franco is fielding these calls is pretty funny. He’s even laughing now and then like Wiseau seems to love doing which is kind of odd but also very creepy, as though he’s laughing at something that only he finds amusing. Plus he’s talking almost like he’s drunk, stoned, or both. Franco is a good actor and over the phone it genuinely sounds like he’s so into his character that he can’t differentiate between real life and the role. He even plays up The Room throughout a couple of the conversations, a shameless plug but something that should have been expected all the same.
It’s actually kind of hard to tell what The Disaster Artist is doing in regards to The Room. It doesn’t seem to be following the theme of a spoof and yet it looks like it’s not trashing on the film either. If anything it looks like the film is trying to explain the reasoning and method behind The Room getting filmed at all. So it’s not bad enough that the movie was absolutely horrible, now we need to see why.
Huh boy.

I’m assuming at this point that no one that calls in has ever really heard Tommy Wiseau talk. If they have then maybe they’re all a bit tipsy or not on their game because there is a difference whether people can admit it or not. That’s why these calls seem just a little bit suspect.

Do people actually do this? Do they just call up a number on a billboard and then try to talk to a person that they assume is the person they want to talk to? I’m attempting to understand the mindset of people at this time and really want to believe that these calls are not in the least bit serious.

Okay, these two just sound WAY too excited to be talking to who they think is Tommy Wiseau. It’s fair at least to say that people are going to idolize who they want, but one thing I’d love to hear is that Wiseau has finally wised up and watched his own performance and come to the same conclusion that everyone else has.
