10 Things You Didn’t Know about Lilan Bowden

Lilan Bowden is literally a woman of two worlds like so many others that wants more opportunity that’s based on her skill and talent rather than her looks. It’s kind of obvious that if a person looks more like one ethnicity than another that many people are going to pick up on it and start to cast them in stereotypical roles that kind of pigeon-hole their talent. While this is highly suspect and not at all complimentary to a person’s skill set it’s easy enough for some people to get by since like Lilan they don’t stop pushing for other parts that they know they’re qualified for. Some people actually despair since they don’t know quite how to make their way past such sentiment, but others like Lilan continue to push and push until they finally reach a breakout role or find someone that’s willing to look beyond their obvious physical traits and see what they can do.

Here are a few things you might not know about Lilan.

10. She started out in comedy.

Lilan started hanging out in improv groups and performing comedy sketches around 2002 and kept moving forward from that point. Her act was good enough that she showed a lot of promise but up until her big break she was simply moving in a steady path towards her goal.

9. Her career took off in 2007.

It’s fair to say that she’s been around the show business scene for a while, perhaps on the fringes, but in 2007 was when she really started getting introduced and allowed to integrate into the entire scene, and she’s been there since and has been a very busy woman by taking a look at her filmography.

8. She was featured in Andi Mack.

Andi Mack is an interesting show in its own right. But what would anyone do if they found out the person they thought was their older sibling was in fact their parent? It raises a lot of interesting questions and shows the life of a middle school student in a very realistic light that is still entertaining.

7. A lot of times she was made the ethnic individual in films or TV shows.

Thanks to the way she looks, being biracial and all, Lilan has been cast as a stereotype in the past and while she hasn’t always enjoyed it there is the prospect of work to be considered. She’s taken the roles and moved on but has found it much more enjoyable when she gets to play an intriguing character rather than someone that’s given to her just because of her looks or her background.

6. Her mother is Tawainese and her father is American.

At this point in history the idea that anyone would think anything about those that are biracial other than the fact that they do have two distinct cultures to pull from is kind of self-defeating since no matter who you come from it doesn’t mean much if you’ve got the talent to act out any part you’re given.

5. She’s been in a lot of short films.

It’s kind of hard to figure out why anyone would show a prevalence in short films but it could be that there’s less to worry over and there’s also the chance that it’s what she prefers. Other than that it could be that it’s acting and that’s all that matters.

4. Her social media following is quite large.

She has well over three hundred thousand followers on social media and for someone that’s been in for just a little over a decade that seems pretty good. Everyone’s got their own reason for following celebrities online but the fact is that with the kind of numbers she has it’s obvious that she touched a nerve with many of them.

3. She’s 33 years old.

Lilan is still relatively young so her time in Hollywood is far from waning since she has the youth and the skill to make things happen if she really wants to. The younger generations are coming forward in a big way as they’re starting to make their voices and their faces known with more and increasingly larger roles.

2. She attended the University of California.

One thing that’s great to see when it comes to actors is that a lot of them are educated and do actually bring something to the profession all at the same time. While being uneducated doesn’t mean that a person doesn’t have talent, it does tend to mean that they got lucky and were noticed more often than not.

1. She was a part of the Upright Citizens Brigade.

Lilan follows in a long line of people that have been with the UCB during their early years and so far it seems as though she’s on the path to be just as successful.

She could easily be one of the greats if she keeps progressing forward.
