What We Know about “Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling” So Far

Do you recall when people had an issue with Looney Tunes? They were too violent, too loud, and too damaging to the minds of youngsters? Yeah, go ahead and tell those people to watch Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling. It’s a funny cartoon to be certain but if you don’t fully explain to your kid what they’re seeing and why it’s amusing, it might have the opportunity to really mess with their heads. Rocko is a cartoon that might be better for kids that are at least able to sort fact from fiction and just enjoy the slightly insane feel of this show. With that said though, it does take a very good look at commercialism and how the average person is driven by the need for something that is trendy and hip.

Here are a few things we can reasonably state about Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, as of now.

The take on commercialism will be an up and down thing.

Just looking at the trailer makes it obvious that the friends will be going out to try any and every new thing they can find to entertain themselves. Rocko might not understand everything, but this doesn’t stop his buddies from going out to experience the sights, sounds, and products that are now available in the 21st century. Some of it might seem great while other parts of it seem downright creepy and even harmful. Sadly Rocko is the one that usually gets the short end of the stick and will likely be the last one to come around.

It will be a severe look at culture shock.

The graphics and the outlook on the 21st century is not that positive in the trailer and it’s actually very revealing when it comes the analogies and metaphors given about real life. People have come to depend so heavily on technology and the next big thing that they’ve essentially let themselves forget just what’s really important. Rocko is still lamenting the 90’s when the current era continues to try to subdue and control him in various ways that he can’t understand. Eventually he retreats to his home and doesn’t want to come out. This is very realistic for many of those that are unwilling to change or are too overwhelmed by the new pace of the 21st century.

Rocko is definitely not ready for the 21st century.

Each and every way he turns Rocko is overwhelmed with the new technology that has come out since they’ve been gone. You have to remember that Rocko and his pals aired from 1993 to 1996. They’ve been out of circulation for a long time and this movie will obviously be an attempt to upgrade them. Imagine two decades worth of change being shoved into your face all at once. The shock of it would send a lot of people running as the modern world sought to invade your life and force upon you a different method of living than you were used to. It is bound to be a rough transition and one that won’t be easily accomplished.

The cartoon is a little dark for kids but is still entertaining. Rocko and his buddies will have to acclimate to the 21st century eventually, so it’s best to just dive in and hope for the best.
