Apparently, it’s no longer the Christmas season until the holidays are under attack by something or someone, or the spirit of Christmas is being threatened in some strange but entertaining way. That’s being taken to heart by the creators of Killer Klowns since Alien’s Xmas is coming to town to do anything but be nice as they plan to, ah, make someone else’s stuff their stuff. That’s how they say it to be fair, and it makes a simple sort of sense considering that it’s not exactly meant to be an intellectual sort of program. But with Halloween just about here and past and Thanksgiving is the kind of holiday that people look forward to but tend to skip over in favor of Christmas, it’s easy to see how everyone’s getting psyched for the year-end holiday that a lot of people end up planning for all year. But aliens taking over Christmas, that’s a different angle to come from, at least at the moment. The whole idea appears to be a simple takeover of Christmas, but as it usually happens there appears to be one of the aliens that’s not completely on board with the idea and finds a different feeling when he attempts to take over the holiday. If the trailer is any indication it will be yet another story that will see the invasion halted if only because the misconceptions that the aliens NEED to take over Christmas will be thwarted by the efforts of those that are willing to work together in order to bring both sides together.
It’s not a big surprise that Christmas movies are already here and will be coming on even stronger as the days go by, as the feeling has been ongoing since the summer, which is pretty usual. But one thing about Christmas movies and TV shows is that the ideas have become a little stale quite often, even if people still intend to watch them religiously. Hey, it happens, there are a lot of us that watch the same Christmas movies each year due to tradition. But when those movies have been watched and enjoyed for the hundredth time, and when Hans Gruber has fallen from the Nakatomi tower once again, it’s usually nice to sit down and see what is being released each new year to see if anyone has decided to do something different. There have been some interesting ideas over the years, as the Grinch fable has been told in a couple of different ways over the years, while Krampus made a resurgence at one point, but aliens and Christmas have been outside of each other’s orbit for a while it would appear, at least until now.
The truly funny idea here is that the aliens are trying to steal earth’s gravity, which is such an oddball idea that one could easily believe that the Chiodo brothers, those behind the Killer Klowns, would come up with it. Only 30 minutes in length, the stop-motion flick is bound to be pretty funny and maybe even a little eye-opening since it does present an idea that has been kind of mirrored in science fiction movies, in some way, but could be kind of odd to see in a Christmas movie. But why not? It’s something that has the advantage of not being done and overdone more than once, and it could even be the beginning of something that will be seen to expand later on if people happen to like it. Or it could just be a short piece that people will enjoy and decide to talk about for a while. Whatever happens one should be able to guess that it will be something worth talking about this holiday season. Heave a heavy sigh and realize that it’s only one of the first that we’ll be likely to talk about since..’tis the season. You knew that was coming, c’mon man.
Christmas movies and TV shows are on the way, and it does feel better to start out with a laugh since the cutesy and over the top emotional programs are bound to take over at some point as Hallmark is always on the horizon this time of year, meaning that if you don’t start finding the more amusing Christmas stories at this point that you might have to wade through the sap in order to find the shows and movies that you want. Aliens Xmas does sound like something that could be a pleasant distraction from the otherwise emotional stories that are bound to pop up any time now, and it could set the tone for other movies and programs that are to come. Or, like I already mentioned, it could be just one more noticeable contribution that some folks might want to seek out in order to get a good laugh.
