Katie Price has revealed that her suicide attempt was the result of a prolonged breakdown following her split from her third husband, Kieran Hayler. The former glamour model, now 46, shared that she reached her breaking point after their divorce, leading her to a dark and desperate moment in her life.
In a candid interview with You Magazine, Katie opened up to Bryony Gordon about this difficult time. She admitted herself into the Priory shortly after realizing she was using drugs and alcohol to cope. “People don’t realize what I’ve been through,” she said, reflecting on her lowest point and the journey that followed.
The Breaking Point and Realization
Katie shared the emotional turmoil she experienced, feeling utterly alone and misunderstood. “I just didn’t want to be here anymore. I thought, ‘What’s the point? No one’s here, no one’s helping, no one understands what I am feeling.'”
After her suicide attempt, she had a moment of clarity:
“I woke up from it thinking, ‘What the f***? I can’t do this to my kids.’ I was at breaking point.”
Her stay at the Priory made her realize that the attempt was the culmination of a long breakdown. Katie had been using cocaine to escape her problems, a habit that shocked her friends and family. She emphasized, “I think there’s this persona of me that I’m a drinker and a cokehead, but I never have been, ever.”

Katie explained how cocaine, rather than giving her a high, shut her down, which is typical for individuals with ADHD. “It [cocaine] is the dirtiest thing. When you’re not in a good place, it taps you on the shoulder and says, ‘I’m here, I can help you.’ To me, it wasn’t a drug that made me want to party. It was more a way to block everything out, to suppress me completely.”
Her stay at the Priory led to a formal diagnosis of ADHD, which helped her understand her behaviors better. “I hate labels,” she further said,
“but it’s made me understand more. I found all my school reports, and they all say exactly the same thing: ‘Dreamer. Gets bored. So capable but gets easily distracted and doesn’t concentrate.’ It all makes sense.”
Life After Diagnosis and New Beginnings
Reflecting on her past, Katie wonders if her life might have been different had she been diagnosed earlier. “I don’t know. And maybe I wouldn’t be where I am today. So I don’t regret any of it, but now I am older, I can understand that I need to hold back and evaluate situations more.”
Katie is now in a happy relationship with JJ Slater and is focused on her mental health and well-being. She admitted herself into the Priory shortly after noticing her dependency on drugs and alcohol, a decision that has led to a path of recovery and self-awareness.
Speaking to You Magazine, Katie expressed relief at finally understanding her condition. “It all makes sense now,” she said, reflecting on her journey.
“I can see why I behaved the way I did, and it’s been a long road, but I’m getting there.”
Moving Forward with Healing and Growth
Katie’s story is one of resilience and determination, she is finding a way forward by focusing on her children and personal growth despite the challenges. Her candid revelations serve as a reminder that mental health struggles are real and that seeking help is a crucial step toward recovery. Her experiences have made her stronger, and she is committed to living a life of purpose and positivity.
As Katie continues to rebuild her life, she hopes her story will inspire others facing similar challenges. “I don’t regret any of it,” she said, “but now I know I need to be more mindful and take care of my mental health.” Katie’s journey is far from over, but she remains hopeful and determined to create a better future for herself and her loved ones.
