Karl Urban is set to star in Amazon’s new and upcoming superhero series, The Boys. As a man that’s already done action in the past this is going to be something that Urban should excel at, though like many of his other roles he’s not going to be a supernaturally-charged individual or even all that tough compared to the people he’s going after. In Dredd he was just flat out scary due to his dedication to the job, just as in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Return of the King he was a dedicated soldier that would stamp out evil wherever he found it. In this series he’s going to be quite human but he’s going to be smart enough to know who he’s going after and will use any trick in the book, even if it’s a dirty one.
Here’s what the series is about in a nutshell:
The Boys takes places in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, and centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as “the boys” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.
Just think about a world in which superheroes act like celebrities, meaning that they buy into the hype and fame that people are willing to bestow upon them. How bad do you think it could get if a person with superpowers went so far as to allow their fame to corrupt their better judgment? What would it be like if Wonder Woman was a diva instead of a true hero? How would it go if Wolverine used his fame to go around causing trouble whenever he felt like it? Better yet, think about what guys like Professor X and Dr. Manhattan could be like if they just didn’t care about people and wanted to act like spoiled rock stars instead? Thankfully none of those big names are going to be in this series, but the heroes that are in the show are bound to be tough enough that the human vigilantes taking them on are going to be pressed as to how to take them out in an efficient manner. Thankfully Urban isn’t unfamiliar with dirty-fighting as some of the movies he’s in have afforded him the chance to rely on the kind of tactics that will be used in this show. Just think about it, going after superheroes that are stronger, faster, and in some cases more intelligent would be a lot more difficult if you were trying to be bound by your honor to fight fair. There’s no such thing as fair when fighting with superheroes.
That’s why you’d need to learn their weaknesses and exploit them. You’d have to nail every last soft spot as hard as you could and keep pounding until that spot crumbled and you had to move onto a new one. This series could be a lot of fun to be honest since it’d be interesting to see a bunch of humans get the drop of a group of corrupt superheroes.
