In the very beginning it looked like Michael Shannon was in the lead to play Cable in Deadpool 2. Then out of nowhere these fanart pictures surfaced of Brad Pitt as Cable so speculation ran wild that Pitt would be getting the part. Then it turns out that Pitt had a scheduling conflict and couldn’t do the role (though we have no idea what the real story is). At that point eyes were back on Michael Shannon to be Cable. But then out of nowhere, Josh Brolin sweeps in and is now officially cast as Cable in Deadpool 2.
According to AP
Representatives for the actor said Wednesday that Brolin has been set to play the part of Cable in 20th Century Fox’s “Deadpool 2” opposite lead Ryan Reynolds. Brolin also plays the supervillain Thanos in various “Avengers” movies for competing studio Disney. Michael Shannon had been widely rumored to be the top pick for the Deadpool co-star.
“Deadpool” became a breakout hit in 2016, grossing over $783 million worldwide. The irreverent and very R-rated comic book film even became an unlikely awards contender late in the game with two Golden Globe nominations and a Directors Guild of America Award nomination for Tim Miller. David Leitch is directing the sequel, which is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2018.
Rumors have it that Ryan Reynolds isn’t 100% happy about the cast (though these are strictly rumors). I gotta say I couldn’t have called this one at all. While I would have liked to see Michael Shannon play cable, Brolin is very very good at playing a bad guy so I would imagine he’ll do just fine. Still though, I kind of like Shannon for the “sinister” guy.
