It seems like every few years a horror movie comes out that simply blows us all away. It creates a new sub genre within horror that we never knew could exist. John Carpenter started one with Halloween. Jame Wan brought us Saw and completely surprised us with a new breed of horror film. When Gore Verbinski made The Ring we were completely thrown off that something this new and interesting could even exist. Also, forgive me because I’m obviously leaving out a ton of people but I think you get the gist of what I’m trying to say.
From reviews and even the trailer alone, you can see that Jordan Peele’s Get Out is definitely the introduction to a new breed of horror movie. This movie completely came out of nowhere and it’s still shocking people who haven’t seen it. The good news? We just found out today that Jordan Peele isn’t done yet. Jordan Peele plans to direct a whole series of horror movies about ‘social demons.’
“I have four other social thrillers that I want to unveil in the next decade,” Peele told Business Insider. “The best and scariest monsters in the world are human beings and what we are capable of especially when we get together. I’ve been working on these premises about these different social demons, these innately human monsters that are woven into the fabric of how we think and how we interact, and each one of my movies is going to be about a different one of these social demons.”
Do I think that Peele is onto something? Absolutely. I predict that his name will be synonymous with some of the best horror movie directors of all-time when this is all said and done. I know this is a bold statement but if you see Get Out you’ll know why.
If you haven’t seen it yet in Get Out, a young black man (Daniel Kaluuya) finds himself in a very messed up situation –actually a massive understatement – when he goes out to the country to visit his white girlfriend’s (Allison Williams) family.
