He might not have that funny swing (though Daly’s swing is quite unconventional with regard to how much he takes his arms back), but John Daly is easily the closest thing we have to Happy Gilmore in professional golf. And frankly I think John Daly would drink and party Happy Gilmore under the table.
During a fundraising event in Myrtle Beach, SC, Daly decided to impress onlookers by doing what he does best: smash the hell out of the ball, smoke cigarettes, and drink beer. In the video you are about to see, Daly drives a golf ball off a beer can and then he chugs the beer all while barefoot with a lit cigarette hanging from his lips.
I don’t think there’s a player on tour who isn’t jealous of John Daly. Can you even imagine if the top players of today even attempted something like this in public? To Daly it’s just another walk in the park. I mean yeah, Daly’s got issues just like the rest of us but this is a man that knows how to live. There’s no taking anything away from that.
