It’s easy to focus on all the main storylines of the NBA finals. All attention has been on Kevin Durant, and rightfully so after his stellar MVP performance. People have been talking about how Stephen Curry finally came through with elite performances in the finals. Klay Thompson’s defense can’t be understated. Draymond Green’s all around game was an anchor that kept the Warriors on pace each game. Andre Iguodala has shown time and time again he can come through when his team needs him most. These were the easy parts.
But what about one guy who’s had a pretty tough year? JaVale McGee came out on top after a year of being made fun of by Shaq, getting called out time and time again for his mistakes on “Shaqtin a Fool” and even almost coming to blows with the guy until Shaq’s mom finally put an end to it.
However, something happened to JaVale after the Shaq feud. He got better. He got funnier. He just stopped taking it all so seriously. And because of that, he’s now an NBA champion. McGee even sported a “Shaq” hat to one of the games in this year’s finals but last night after the Warriors won it all, McGee gets the award for the best post game tweet.
