Jane the Virgin Review: When Siblings Come To Town

Jane the Virgin

It’s getting hot in Miami, and we don’t just mean the weather. Jane the Virgin kept her promise and waited to lose her ‘flower’ until her wedding night. Fast forward three years since that moment and Jane has entered a new stage in her life. If Jane chooses to open herself up, her professional life develops and her personal life becomes much more exciting. Emphasis should be put on the fact that Jane is looking for the right kind of excitement, as opposed to the messiness that Rafael and Petra have to deal with.

First things first. Let’s congratulate Jane on finally being a published author! Jane’s dream is coming true, and the subject matter was perfect. Our dreams rarely play out like we think they are going to. Jane never could have imagined that her life would turn out the way it has, or that her publishers would be more interested in marketing her life instead of her book. Jane doesn’t want to be known by the most painful moments of her life. Her dad’s new costar Fabian tries to help by getting Jane more Twitter followers, but ultimately Jane needs to tell her story. Jane needs to understand that talking about Michael doesn’t diminish his memory. It also boosts Jane’s book sales because they feel more connected to her, and by extension, her novel.

The normal rules don’t apply anymore to Jane’s personal life anymore. Just because Alba has stayed celibate doesn’t mean that she has to. It’s been three years since Michael died. Me thinks Jane has waited long enough that she could allow herself a fling. Rogelio just happens to have a hot new costar with all the right muscles. Unfortunately, dad is not as hot for Fabian. Hot, younger men make Rogelio nervous about his job security. He has nothing to worry about though. Fabian is all about Rogelio like a little kid meeting Superman. That’s also problematic for Rogelio, since he doesn’t feel comfortable making a new friend, when he misses Michael too. Michael was his best friend, the kind of friend who didn’t mind going for a mani/pedi with you. It’s going to take a little time for Rogelio to get used to Fabian once he reveals he actually does like Jane. He’s not quite there with the friendship thing.

Just because she’s not as open to it, doesn’t mean that Alba isn’t having a hard time with celibacy these days. Jorge is the first man she’s felt this hot for in years (and considering she’s past the point of menopause, that’s saying something). Yet still, she doesn’t believe in sex without marriage. She thinks it is a deal-breaker for Jorge, but the man cares enough for Alba to commit to dating her without the promise of a physical relationship. How lucky is Alba to find such a good man a second time around?

You know what’s not hot in all of this? Crazy siblings who like to commit crimes. That’s nothing but a hot mess. Honestly, it makes perfect sense that Petra and Rafael are so compatible, and why Rafael wants her back. They have built such a deep understanding, respect, and love between each other because they’ve been through the exact same craziness! Anezka traumatized Petra so much, she was paid to stay away. Luisa screwed up so badly Rafael won’t allow her to see his children. Now both of them cause nothing but trouble in Miami. Anezka is immediately arrested when she steps on U.S. soil, and Luisa has to decide if she wants a relationship with her family, or stay with her murderous, mask-donned girlfriend. Luisa needs to hurry before Rafael and his private investigator find her out on their own.

Next week Jane will be ready to get back in the saddle again, but she’ll be in for an ironic surprise when she goes in for the reigns!
