I work. A lot. And sometimes that leads to burnout. But I found a preventative treatment for that. I set aside time to create just for me.
I promised myself long ago to do a fun shoot, just for me, every couple of months to keep the joy of creating alive and stave off the burnout most artists feel.
Well, my inner child took the wheel with this one and went wild. Behold! Nightmare Before Christmas Couture…
I, my sister, and my husband created the whole Halloween City out of styrofoam and spray paint. My sister and I carved 40 foam pumpkins with dremmels. I airbrushed makeup for the first time (highly recommend!) My sister made the headpieces. I created the Mayor’s masks from air clay.
It took 4 hours to set up the day of the shoot, 3 hours for all the makeup, 2 hours of shooting, and months of prep. It was a labor of love and I tell you, it’s always the most rewarding when you are creating, for you, from scratch, for joy.
My inner child is happy. Me? I’m tired.
