Netflix has released information about the new titles that will become available through the streaming service in December. Unsurprisingly, those new titles include a number that are centered around Christmas in some manner. However, it is interesting to note that there are a significant number of horror titles as well, which should come as welcome news to those who want something besides a succession of Christmas movies come Christmas time.
What Horror Titles Are Coming to Netflix in December?
One example of the horror titles that will be available through Netflix in December is Dreamcatcher on December 1. For those who are unfamiliar with the name, Dreamcatcher was a 2003 movie that was based on a Stephen King novel of the same name. Said movie was a sci-fi horror, seeing as how it was centered around four friends being confronted with an invasion of parasitic aliens. With that said, Dreamcatcher was not exactly the most well-received movie in its time, but for people who can’t get enough of Stephen King adaptations even after the release of both It and The Dark Tower, it might be enough to take the edge off of their hunger while they wait for more adaptations to come out.
Another example of the horror titles is Bright, which won’t be released until December 22. This one is interesting in that it will be starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as LAPD officers in a world where humans co-exist with a number of fantasy species such as orcs and elves. As a result, it is safe to say that there aren’t a lot of titles out there that look like Bright, meaning that fantasy horror fans might want to check it out for the sake of novelty if nothing else. Not too much information has been released about what interested individuals can expect from the plot, but it is known that it will involve some sort of world-changing threat that was believed to have been vanquished, which is perhaps unsurprising considering its fantasy roots.
Finally, there is Creep 2 on December 23, which is of course, a follow-up to Creep in 2014. The first movie was an excellent example of the found footage horror movies that were popularized by The Blair Witch Project in 1999 but have much older roots than that. Regardless, said movie was centered around a serial killer named Josef, who was a departure from a lot of his counterparts in other horror movies in that he was not just strange and unsettling but also very emotional. In Creep 2, said character makes a return, though he is now using the name of the man that he killed in the previous movie rather than Josef.
His new victim is a woman named Sara, who agrees to film him because she wants to make a good send-off for a YouTube series that has not been getting the reception that she wanted for it. As a result, she is willing to continue humoring the serial killer even though he starts off their encounter by stating that he is a serial killer, though there is room for interpretation regarding whether she is doing so because she doesn’t believe him or because she is doing so because she has a suicidal sense of curiosity. Whatever the case, Creep 2 manages to be both very odd and very unsettling, which is always an interesting combination for a horror movie.
