10 Things You Didn’t Know about Home and Family

Home and Family is the kind of show that you might get into if you want clean, wholesome TV and learn how to manage DIY projects around your house in your downtime, if you have any. It’s one of those shows that airs on daytime TV that a lot of people either flip past or just don’t have time for and might leave on as background noise, but many upon many people do in fact watch this show and learn a great deal from it. The show hasn’t been without controversy in either its first or second run, and at this point it is embroiled in a lawsuit with one of its former hosts after he was let go. Be that as it may the show is still a bright spot in the morning for those that want to wake up and watch something that’s not depressing or filled with playful lunacy or too much drama to deal with at such early hours.

Here are a few things you might not know about the show.

10. Chuck Woolery was one of the original hosts.

Back in the 90s the host of the Dating Game, Chuck Woolery, was one of the first hosts to take over on Home and Family and he stayed for a good while during the show’s initial run. When it came back in 2012 however the show decided to go with younger, more vibrant hosts.

9. It originally ran from 1996 to 1998 but was revived in 2012.

The show did manage to create a fan base back in the 90s but still went off the air for a while until 2012. When it came back the format was much the same but of course a few things had changed to keep the show competitive while remaining a largely family-friendly program.

8. The show is heavily censored for content and even certain words.

This show is meant to be something that pretty much anyone could watch without getting offended in any way, as even the word “breast” isn’t allowed in the dialogue. One can only think that trying to watch their language at times and come up with dialogue that’s not in any way offensive is kind of a challenge.

7. The show has a habit of switching up its cast in a very abrupt way.

Since 2012 the show has been through a couple of different hosts, showing that it has something close to a revolving door policy in that the producers will gladly ship off the talent that’s already been seen in favor of someone that they think might take the show in a different direction. It’s not exactly a loyalty-based show obviously as they want results more than anything.

6. There’s more going on behind the scenes than the show wants to broadcast.

There was a lawsuit brought up by one of the former hosts over his termination from the show. He’s stated that he was let go because of his decision to stand up for two of the female crew members that were harassed by a producer and is attempting to stand up for himself now after losing his job.

5. The show is all about wholesome ideas to use in and around the home.

From DIY projects to just simple little tips and hints of how to make one’s home a little more attractive to the eye and more efficient this show is filled with advice on how to spice up one’s home in several different ways.

4. It’s on the Hallmark Channel.

This would explain just why the show has to be censored as it is considering the Hallmark Channel is known far and wide to be the kind of channel that for the most part doesn’t deal with harsh language and is more or less for families and those that don’t enjoy the violence of other stations.

3. The show has been through a few hosts.

It’s not completely uncommon for a show to switch hosts but it’s also kind of rare to see them come and go in a manner that makes it seem like the role is impermanent so long as the producers want to keep switching things around.

2. It’s filmed in Los Angeles, CA.

Like a lot of shows LA is where things tend to happen and people want to be a lot of the time. Home and Family is just one of many that take place in LA and among them is probably one of the most low-key but popular shows that people actually want to watch.

1. The celebrity guests are kept on the show the entire time.

A lot of shows will bring out a celebrity guest, introduce them, talk to them, and then they’ll be gone when the commercial break is over. This show however keeps them around the entire time so as to get more out of the broadcast.

The show isn’t perfect by any means but it’s one of those that’s a lot more calm and collected than others.
