Hillary Clinton Earned Less For College Speech Than “Snooki” From Jersey Shore

The idea of anyone having to pay to hear Hillary Clinton or Snooki from Jersey Shore speak is kind of ridiculous really. It’s like saying that they don’t earn enough money elsewhere so they need to bilk the students at each university they speak at because they need to donate to their charities or pay the bills or do something equally foolish with it. If there’s anything to say about this, besides the amusing fact that a reality TV star made more than a former presidential candidate, it’s that such individuals are without a doubt well learned in how to work the system.

If you take a look back at what Hillary used to get paid for public speaking, she was taking in $200-$300 thousand per speech. PER SPEECH. And this is a woman that would go around the country and speak at multiple universities throughout the year, giving of herself in order to make people think for themselves and try to make the world a better place. It’s appalling that each and every college and university would actually take the time and effort to figure out just how much to charge the students, raise tuition, and then take the money out of a student fund in order to pay these folks that have already made mass amounts of money elsewhere. The gall of it is kind of astounding since none of those individuals that have gone to speak at universities, some of whom have been given honorary degrees no less, are in any way poor or unable to raise funds if they needed to do so. And yet they’ll gladly take a check for a single appearance in order to put it towards a charity that is in their name and therefore accessible by them while bilking students that typically have little to work with and are surviving on a shoestring budget.

Now it’s true that some students might be able to afford the tuition hike that results from this and could possibly afford to pay to see these folks speak. But a large number of college students, whether they wanted to hear her speak or not, would still be subjected to the tuition hike and thus penalized somehow for the fact that their university wanted a famous person to come and speak to the students. At this point the speakers need to come for a greatly reduced rate or don’t come at all since the idea of paying them a single dime is just nuts. To have to give them an incentive to come and speak at place where their words and their status could do the most good is an insult to education in a way since they’re not giving much but are taking a great deal from the students by way of creating tuition hikes and making it harder than it already is to afford college.

Those that are outraged by this have every right to be, and the sentiment of being able to deny these people the chance to come and speak unless they waive their fees entirely should be something that receives an honest amount of discussion.
