Imagine being 25-years-old and asked to do a few voices on a cartoon show called “The Simpsons.” Up until 1989 you’ve had 4 parts on television including tiny roles on Family Ties and Growing Pains. But other than that, nothing. What do you do? That’s the situation Hank Azaria was in. Little did he or anyone know that those voices would launch what will probably be a lifelong career filled with opportunity and stability.
Today Hank Azaria is 52-years-old and not only is he a zillion voices on The Simpsons but he’s got 92 credits to his name on IMDB appearing in numerous movies and television shows. And it’s not just for his voice either. Azaria’s shown he can solidly act too. Azaria stopped by The Late Show last night to talk about his role on IFC’s “Brockmire” but also to teach Stephen Colbert how he does those amazing voices.
In particular he gives Colbert a lesson on how to do the “Baseball Announcer” voice. Watch Hank Azaria transform into his newest character to make the call on a pitch from Chicago Cubs hot dog vendor Donny Franks. You can also see Colbert not doing such a good job of this too:
