Elsewhere, in the girls’bathroom, Rachel meets Sunshine Corazón, the exchange student, and tries to convince her to join New Directions. Sunshine is a little freaked out because Rachel treats her like she can’t understand a word of English, but nods so she’ll go away. When Rachel is about to leave, she hears Sunshine singing to herself Telephone by Lady Gaga and right then a one-sided battle ensues. One-sided because Rachel is terrified once she realizes Sunshine can really sing, so she tries to intimidate her by trying to out sing her. Sunshine, on the other hand, is not intimidated at all. In fact, she’s really enjoying herself.
Their great performance is interrupted by Sue’s hilarious entrance telling them to shut up. Sunshine tells Rachel that was really cool and she would love to join the Club and asks when the auditions are going to take place. Rachel is even more scared and tells her she’ll check into it and get back to her. Then she runs to Kurt and Mercedes and proceeds to tell them about Sunshine and how she is going to threaten their solos. So being the good friend that she is, she paid someone to slushie them right in front of Sunshine, so she’ll think they’re losers and change her mind about joining in. Mercedes and Kurt tell her she’s an idiot and they need all the help they can get. Rachel says they’re right and goes after Sunshine to give her directions to where the auditions will take place.
Quinn tries out for the Cheerios and Sue tells her to go away. She argues that she knows about their money issue and thinks that there are several church groups who would gladly give money to a squad that helps rehabilitate a girl who got pregnant and now speaks about abstinence and education while wearing a Cheerios uniform. And then she’s in. She also tells Sue that Santana got a boob job over the summer and Sue confronts Santana about that, demoting her to the bottom of the pyramid for breaking the Cheerios rules. Santana gets pissed and takes it out on Quinn, engaging her in a catfight. The scene has the best line of the episode when Brittany tells in the best deadpan tone ever: ‘Stop the violence’. It’s roll-on-the-floor-laughing-your-ass-off hilarious.
Finn makes due on his promise to Artie and takes him to try out for the football team so he can be popular and get Tina back. They try to explain to Beiste their idea about how Artie could be a human cannon ball on the field, but Coach Beiste completely freaks out and kicks Finn off the team.
Meanwhile, Sue and Will are trying to demoralize Coach Beiste, so they order 25 pizzas in her name and have them delivered in the locker room in front of the entire football team. Completely juvenile, but still funny. And it totally backfires because Beiste ends up paying for the pizzas and giving them to the boys. Then they refuse to let her sit with them during lunch so she will have nowhere to eat. When Beiste tells Will that she had thought he was nice and that she was treated like that everywhere she went, Mr. Schue starts to feel bad about what they’re doing.
It all culminates to Beiste being called to Figgins’office because Brittany is accusing her of touching her inappropriately, with Sue backing her up. When Will gets there, he is shocked that Sue is doing that and tells Brittany she has to tell the truth, which she does. Coach Beiste hadn’t touched her boobs. In fact, she wanted to touch Beiste’s boobs.
Sue is pissed off that Will is turning on her and they’re starting to argue when Tina and Mike ask to talk to him and it’s really important. They tell him that Rachel sent Sunshine to a crack house and Mr. Schue yells at Rachel for that and tells her to apologize to Sunshine and make it right. She does, grudgingly, and tells her to come to the Auditorium the next day.
Sunshine finally auditions with the song Listen from the musical Dreamgirls, and boy, can that tiny girl sing or what! Mr. Schue welcomes her to the club and everyone is happy, except Rachel, of course.
Finn goes after Sam to find out why he didn’t show up to audition and Sam tells him he is not going to anymore. After all, he saw what Coach Beiste did to him and he’s been paying attention to how everyone talks about Glee Club guys and he’s not ready for that. It’s bad enough that he’s the new guy.
After apologizing to Coach Beiste and making amends, Mr. Schue finds Sunshine, intending to sign her up on the club, but she is about to transfer to another school. Vocal Adrenaline’s school. They’ve heard about her, paid for her house and got her and her mom a green card so she’s going with them. All of that because of Sue. She tells him that she hated to do it, but he had chosen his side.
Finn tells Rachel that what she did was wrong and everyone is pissed at her. He even got her to admit that she did all that because she didn’t want to share the spotlight. He tells her the least she can do is apologize. She agrees, they kiss and she tells him she wants to be alone for a little while. She goes to the auditorium and performs the song What I Did For Love all by her lonesome.
