Recently, an orthodontist posted a funny story about one of their patients to a Tumblr page. In short, what happened was that a teenage girl had such a strong reaction to the scene of Killmonger removing his shirt in Black Panther that she clenched her teeth with sufficient force to break her retainer. Since no names were included in the initial post, that might have been it. However, it seems that there were a lot of people who were entertained by the story, which is why it spread like a wildfire. In fact, the story spread so far so fast that the teenage girl, whose name is Sophia, realized that she was the subject of the story while she was on Twitter.
So far, Sophia seems to have had a moment of shock before adjusting to her newfound circumstances. Sure, the story about her isn’t exactly the most glamorous way to get noticed on social media, but for the most part, social media users have been responding to it in what can be called a positive manner. In part, this might be because while her reaction was rather strong in more than one sense, the nature of it was rather understandable considering that Killmonger was played by Michael B. Jordan. Whatever the case, Sophia has received a lot of interest because of the story, with examples ranging from a surge in the number of her followers to media outlets wanting to interview her about the incident.
With that said, considering how Sophia reacted to the scene, the single most exciting example of the interest shown in her story might be that of Michael B. Jordan’s comment on the matter. In short, Jordan has stated that he feels that he shares some of the responsibility for what happened, which is why he is offering to cover the costs of the broken retainers. Of course, this has added another positive element to the story, thus making what was already a very lighthearted story that much more so.
This is but one example of the numerous social media stories that have resulted from the success of Black Panther. Some of these stories have been serious in nature, as shown by the discussions of what Killmonger had gotten right as well as what Killmonger had gotten wrong. In contrast, other stories have been much sillier, as shown by the memes of Killmonger being a huge fan of Japanese anime. Something that seems to have started up because Michael B. Jordan is known to be one in real life, which may or may not resulted in his costume being based on that of the character Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z.
Regardless, it is nice that this particular story has had such an upbeat conclusion. With that said, it will be amusing to see what happens in the future. After all, Jordan isn’t just well-known for his role as Killmonger in Black Panther but also for his role as Adonis Creed from the Creed movies. As a result, it will be amusing to see how Sophia reacts once Creed 2 comes out in the not so distant future.
