General Hospital Daytime Emmy Nomination Surprises

General Hospital Daytime Emmy Nomination Surprises

General Hospital fans are all excited about the Daytime Emmys coming up, and that’s because their favorite characters and actors get to call it a win for their many nominations. The show is not a stranger to taking home a lot of wins on a regular basis, but this is a special year in so many years. It is special because it’s a year in which things were really on the downturn for so many people on the show. We feel that more people than usual were in a bad place, and that’s not all that much fun to see. The stories have been good, but things have been so bad for so many people. They go to work and play characters who are always in so much trouble and facing so much loss, so this gets to play a big change in their game for them. We are excited for all the men and women nominated, and we have a few Emmy fun facts for you.

They Have 25 Nominations

We aren’t sure how many nominations it is possible to get because that kind of math is too much for us over here, but we know it’s a lot. A staggering 25 nominations is impressive, though it is not quite impressive enough to earn them more nominations in Port Charles than they have in Salem. The people of Days of Our Lives walked away with two more nominations to take home the most this year, but this is not a bad second place number. They could theoretically take home more wins than Days, and that makes them the big winner overall. That’s how we see it, anyway. But, this is a lot of nominations, a lot of celebrations to have, and a lot of things to be happy about. We’d take 25 reasons to smile and feel good about the hard work we’ve been doing if we were given the opportunity, too.

Two Leading Nominations in Each Category

What we love this year is that things are pretty even in this category. There are two actresses in a leading female role, and there are two males nominated for the leading actor role, and that is everything we think is amazing. We are not at all surprised that things are taking a stand in this matter, and we hope that we can see things unfold in a way that makes it just a bit more interesting. The two women nominated are the two who probably had the most difficult years of anyone playing roles in which their characters were basically off the deep end, and that is Laura Wright and Maura West. Carly and Ava both had rough years, and they are being recognized for how well they played that off.

Meanwhile, both Maurice Benard and Jon Lindstrom are both nominated for the leading male roles, and that is not a surprise either. Both of their characters were quite bold this year, and we aren’t surprised to see them in the middle of this situation. They are the kind of men who play the role with everything they have, and that is not something the show takes for granted.

Not So Many Supporting Nominations

This year, there are more men than women nominated for supporting roles, which is interesting to us when you consider just how many women in Port Charles are supporting actresses who do a wonderful job in their role. We are a little bit surprised to see that the only person nominated in this role this year is Vernee Watson, though we totally think she deserves every second of her own nomination. However, we think there are a few others who also deserve a bit more than they were given, and we feel this one was a bit of a snub.

In terms of supporting men, however, there are a few to name. There’s Dominic Zamprogna and Max Gail. We are a little bit surprised to see Dante there since he was gone half the year and he was more of a leading actor when he was there. But, to each his own. He does a stellar job, and he does deserve some recognition for that when it’s awarded.
