Richard Dreyfuss has been in the game for a long time, so you would just naturally assume that he’s got a slew of films under his belt, some good and some bad. That’s why it’s not so hard to imagine that there are a few out there he’d either like to forget or at least not talk about that often. He’s become such a great actor in his time that many people remember him for films like Mr. Holland’s Opus or Jaws or even Stakeout. The man is a certified legend even though you don’t hear about him all that often lately. He’s done so many great things in film that thinking he’s done something bad kind of leaves an uncertain taste in one’s mouth, as though you’ve swallowed something bitter along with something sweet. In any case even his worse roles aren’t so bad that you’d think any less of him.
Of course, there are always those that you have to wonder about.
5. Pirhana 3D-Matt Boyd
First off this entire movie is just one big flop, really. People might have gone to see it but I’m betting it was more out of curiosity than any real desire. The premise for Jaws was one thing since sharks are big and can be very aggressive if they’re given reason to be. Piranha can be just as mean and aggressive but quite honestly this film is much sillier than most horror movies.
4. The Crew-Bobby Bartemelleo
Some guys don’t know when to hang it up and some guys are just waiting for the final checkout. Imagining Richard Dreyfuss as a gangster at any age is a HUGE stretch. Back in his younger days he looked the part of the geeky college kid and then the college professor. He didn’t exactly grow out of that with age since he still has a very scholarly appearance and doesn’t come off as a tough guy.
3. Krippendorf’s Tribe-Krippendorf
It’s amazing how much people are given to go out and conduct research, and how often they don’t succeed. This is a role that Dreyfuss can definitely fill but it just comes off as campy and extremely contrived. Plus, if anyone were to try and make this movie in today’s social atmosphere then you can easily guess that there would several groups up in arms about it for one reason or another.
2. Another Stakeout-Chris Lecce
Wasn’t the first one enough? It had everything that was needed to be a great film, but the second one kind of fell flat, and a lot of people like to blame it on Rosie O’Donnell. It’s not really a criticism of her character or acting ability, but adding on another character in a sequel tends to make a lot of people think that it couldn’t stand on its own. Plus, a lot of people don’t tend to like O’Donnell.
1. Let It Ride-Jay Trotter
I just don’t see him as a huckster. A professor, a student, a psychiatrist, and even a high school music teacher, but not a man that spends his days at the track and continually loses like it’s going out of style. He knows how to act, but this seems really out of character for him.
Richard Dreyfuss is a great actor, but like everyone else he has a few roles he should have said no to.
