The United States cable network Ovation has decided to pick up a Sky network series that was speckled with mixed reviews in the U.K. “Riviera” is a ten part series that follows the life of an art curator who is on a mission to solve a mystery. Julia Stiles plays the role of the widow who is searching for information that will help her to discover more about her husband’s death which has not yet been solved. Here are five things that you need to know about the series that is new to the United States on Ovation.
1. It didn’t resonate with UK viewers but was still successful
When the reviews for “Riviera” came in from UK viewers, the results were not overwhelmingly positive, nor were they particularly negative. There were some who truly enjoyed it while others didn’t care for the show. This is one of those series that you either really love or really hate. That’s not necessarily a bad thing because it does reach out to its target audiences successfully and we must say that more than fifteen million downloads of the series suggests that it made a good impression with enough viewers to call it a raging success.
2. “Riviera” is just what Ovation was looking for
If you enjoy the programming that you’re seeing on Ovation now, then get ready for more of the good stuff to come your way. Execs of the network are constantly scouting for more TV series’ that are in the genre of arts and culture because that is the overriding theme of the network. This moves them into the international drama scene and they were convinced that this would be the right move to make because of the components of the show that current Ovation viewers enjoy.
3. “Riviera” is part of a movement sponsored by the Ovation network
Ovation is growing its network and has already reached beyond 55 million viewers. It is among the faster growing cable networks and with so much competition, this is no small task. The programming is being tightened up to stay within the established genre and “Riviera” is an excellent example of the type of programming that their viewers are looking for. With the acquisition of this new program, it is believed that viewership will yet increase even more, at least that is the hope. As the network grows, it is constantly making improvements and refining the lineup to cater to the likes and preferences of its target audience.
4. The show fits in perfectly with Ovation’s platforms
In addition to securing the licensing from Sky Vision for forty hours of programming, the digital rights for the program come along with it. This allows for downloading of the program from the United States so viewers can enjoy watching in their spare time on their mobile devices. Gillian Rose who is the senior Vice President for United States Sales and Acquisitions at Sky Vision commented that they ae pleased that Ovation is taking the initiative to include this series in their lineup for both linear and digital broadcast.
5. The show will focus on solving a mystery
While art and culture are to the fore in this new series, one of the predominant themes will be the main character’s search for information. Her husband was killed in a yachting accident and there are many questions that have been left unanswered. She has a driving need to know what took place. Creators Neil Jordan and Johnn Banville have brilliantly written the events that have taken place in the show to allow room for some great mysteries to develop and it will help to add a bit of suspense and make the series more interesting to follow as Stiles who is a curator of midwestern art discovers clues here and there.
