Five Things You Didn’t Know about Stephany Folsom

You might think that Toy Story is a tale that’s been played out, but Stephany Folsom has been selected to script the next chapter in the epic tale that allowed Pixar to become such a giant in the animated film industry. So far her works have been well-received and she’s been lauded for her talent as well as her tenacity. Stephany is well known to be studious and very detailed in her scripts as she has performed weeks to months worth of research in order to bring forth the best possible script she can provide. As a writer she is perhaps one of the most imaginative and professional people on the scene today, and it’s hopeful that she will bring new life to Toy Story 4.

Considering how the third one ended she will have a lot to work with.

5. She was denied credit for Thor: Ragnarok by the WGA.

Apparently the WGA has very strict guidelines on how many people can be given credit for a screenplay to a film and unfortunately this means that her contributions didn’t add up to much. Marvel assured her that having a good working relationship with them was almost the same as being given a credit that people could see, but would not comment on why her name was left out of the credits. That seems like a very cheap thing to do to someone that made a greater than average contribution.

4. She’s a screenwriter.

She has been an experienced screenwriter for some time now and has done quite well with it. Despite a few drawbacks that come with being a writer in any field she’s managed to make her name known in all the right circles and has been very influential in how she has dealt with a few projects. As with many writers she’s got her own sense of self-worth, which is what makes the omission of her name from Thor: Ragnarok just a little troubling.

3. She belongs to the WGA.

The Writers Guild of America is a labor union for writers that is there to protect their interests and seemingly little else. Folsom is a part of this guild and while it’s unfortunate that they did not step up to her defense in the omission of her name from the movie it is also in their guidelines that only two individuals or two teams could gain the credit and that meant that her name was cut out. That might not seem like they’re working in her best interests but those are their rules.

2. She loves anything to do with space.

She has a very big love of anything that has to do with outer space and when she was contacted by NASA to write a screenplay based on the supposed proposition made to Stanley Kubrick to stage the moon landing she didn’t hesitate.

1. She doesn’t always like to follow the rules.

Let’s face it, in any job, especially those where an individual has enough freedom to move about and do what they wish, rules are sometimes seen as mere guidelines. It doesn’t mean that she lives to break the rules, but she will definitely do as she feels she must at times to get her point across.

Being a writer in any field doesn’t mean conforming to the box that society wants.
