Jason Mitchell isn’t really an unknown but he’s still earning his way up through the ranks despite having starred in a couple of productions that were worth taking note of. He’s been in the industry for less than a decade and hasn’t yet really earned his way to the top but he’s already taking steps to make sure that he sticks around. His acting skills are good enough to help him out but he still seems to need a bit more of that special something to really help him get noticed and become more than a guy that might get noticed for playing famous characters in the movies. Acting isn’t the biggest hurdle he has to climb, it’s acting with a convincing amount of feeling and authenticity to make sure that he’s the one that gets remembered.
Hollywood is a brutal place after all and it can hone a person’s talent or crush it.
5. He played Eazy-E in Straight Outta Compton
For some this role was so well done that they couldn’t have imagined anyone doing it better. For others it was an okay performance but nothing to really go nuts over. The whole formation of N.W.A and the intense feelings between Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube were so overblown that a lot of critics and fans from the old days didn’t feel it was a good enough representation. It got a lot of attention though.
4.He was once taken off an airplane in handcuffs.
The story goes that he missed his flight, in which he was booked first class, and then made another flight. This second flight would have put him in economy, something he didn’t understand since he believed he’d just be automatically bumped to first class yet again. It doesn’t really work that way, and when you get violent and belligerent towards the airline staff security is just a short phone call away.
3. He’s still fairly new to the industry.
He started his career in 2011 so he’s not so brand new that he’s still wet behind the ears but he has a ways to go to reach superstar status. If he can last for a decade or more than he can surely make his way through the industry and continue to rise in popularity as he finds a way to make people like him and become the actor he really wants to be.
2. He’s now starring in Mudbound.
Racism is a big issue in films these days and Mudbound is one of the many that have decided to tackle both it and the issue of PTSD. The film is set just after WWII when two veterans make their way home to Mississippi, where they will have to cope with civilian life again and everything that comes with it. It’s bound to be a touching and eye-opening film.
1. He has over 275 thousand followers on Instagram.
Instagram seems to be one of the great equalizers these days since if you have a legion of followers on Instagram there’s a good chance that you’re doing something right. He hasn’t hit the half million mark yet but he’s getting there.
Jason Mitchell is on his way, there’s no doubt.
