Born in 1982, Melissa Fumero is an American actress who has appeared in a number of movies and TV shows. So far, her best-known role prior to Brooklyn Nine Nine had been Adriana Cramer on One Life to Live, but her other roles have ranged from Zoe on Gossip Girl to more minor characters on CSI: NY and The Mentalist. At the moment, Fumero is playing the female lead Amy Santiago on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which will hopefully continue broadcasting.
Here are five things that you may or may not have known about Melissa Fumero:
Daughter of Cuban Parents
Fumero was born in Lyndhurst, which is a small township that can be found in Bergen County in the state of New Jersey. However, it is interesting to note that she was born to a pair of Cubans, who had immigrated from Cuba when they were still teenagers.
Got a Role On Her Last Day of School
She got her start as Adriana Cramer on One Life to Live. To be exact, she learned about her winning the role no more than five hours after she had finished her final exams at New York University. In other words, it was the perfect capstone for her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama.
Appeared On Two Soap Operas As the Same Character
Initially, Adriana Cramer was intended to be someone pretending to be the long-lost daughter of Dorian Cramer Lord in order to gain an inheritance. Later on, it was revealed that the character was indeed the long-lost daughter of Dorian Cramer Lord because of the resemblance between Fumero and Robin Strasser, who played the respective characters. This paved the way for Fumero’s stint on the soap opera as well as a short appearance on its sister soap opera All My Children.
Met Her Husband On the Set
Fumero is married to David Fumero, who she met on the set for One Life to Live. There, David Fumero played the character Cristian Vega, who was connected to Fumero’s character through his mother, Carlotta Vega, who was the maid to her character’s father, Dorian Cramer Lord. Regardless, the couple got married in 2007, which saw Fumero changing her name from Gallo to Fumero. Furthermore, the couple have a son named Enzo, who was born in March of 2016 after Fumero announced that she was expecting her first child in November of 2015.
Heard On “Graduation (Friends Forever)”
As strange as it sounds, Fumero can be heard on the original version of Graduation (Friends Forever), which is a single by American pop singer Vitamin C that was released in 2000. For those who are unfamiliar with the song, it receives a fair amount of playtime at high school graduations, for which it was written. However, it is interesting to note that there have been versions of it edited to create something more suitable for students graduating from middle school and even elementary school, which is why there is more than one version with more than one set of students discussing graduation interspersed throughout the song.
