We have seen many actors and actresses come and go throughout the years of the entertainment industry, some that have careers spanning many, many years, and even some that are making their grand debut to film and television in recent years. One actress that is just starting to make her work more recognized internationally is that of Maeve Dermody. This Australian actress has had quite a career thus far, and we can only wait to see the potential that she will have as she continues to entertain audiences everywhere. All In The Family

Maeve Dermody is the daughter of Susan Murphy Dermody, who is a well known director as well as a film theorist and historian. In fact, her mother was the person to give her the very first role she ever had as an actress, in a film that Dermody directed entitled ‘Breathing Under Water’, which was released in 1993.

Early Career

Maeve Dermody began her career at an early age, more specifically at age 5, when took part in her mother’s film ‘Breathing Under Water’ in 1993 (as we mentioned previously). However, even through her schooling, she was taking part in many different acting projects, including that of the theater as well as a television series in 1998 that was entitled ‘All Saints’ and a couple of short films here and there.

She Is Extremely Intelligent

Maeve Dermody has proven her intelligence time and time again. When she attended Mosman High School located in Sydney, Australia, she had an almost perfect UAI (Universities Admissions Index); Her score was a 99.97. During her school years, she was also heavily involved in drama classes, as well as attending the Australian Theater for Young People. She ended up going on to the National Institute Of Dramatic Art in Sydney as well before really taking off in her career.

First Major Role

Dermody’s first major film debut came in 2007 with the independent movie thriller of ‘Black Water’. The film told the story of a group of people who are trapped in the North Territory by a terrifying and treacherous saltwater crocodile. The film received good reviews, and her career has only blossomed from there.

Award Nominations

Maeve Dermody has been nominated several times for her numerous roles she’s been in thus far. She has been nominated for a few AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts) awards and FCCA (Film Critics Circle of Australia) awards, for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress categories for her work.

Although the majority of her films, short films, and television series that she has starred in thus far have been created and released in her native country of Australia, Maeve Dermody has a promising career in front of her as she takes more roles that expand internationally.
