There’s a certain fascination about life in the most remote areas of Alaska that has inspired many shows on the Discovery Channel. For all of us that are far from living remotely, it’s amazing to see how people can seem to have unusual yet equally normal lives in such challenging living situations. It’s a testament to the fact that people will do whatever they can to survive. However, there are those who do more than just survive; some people actually thrive in that kind of environment, and that’s exactly what the Discovery Channel’s new show Last Outpost is all about. Here are five things you didn’t know about our latest TV obsession.
Greathouse and Anderson
The two stars of the show, Clint Greathouse and Todd Anderson, are backcountry builders. They’re the brains behind CT MadModz, a company built on the foundation of ingenuity, inventiveness, and inspiration. With the combination of both their skills, they come up with solutions to the many problems that involve living in remote Alaska. Through their resourcefulness, they build machines that help other people in the area adapt to their situations.
Life off-grid
You know that the show is about living in remote areas of Alaska, but you really have no idea what that’s like. Living off-grid means you’ll have to turn on your survival mode, as you navigate through your life without the most basic necessities considered today. It means isolation; it means no electricity or power. In Alaska, it means dealing with the harshest conditions imaginable. The show will give us a glimpse of what that must be like and how CT MadModz are coming up with solutions for people to be able to follow the off-grid tradition with a little bit more help.
Ultimate recycling
Perhaps one of the most impressive things about CT MadModz is the resourcefulness we’ve already mentioned. The team is so innovative that all their builds are made with only recycled parts and materials. It makes sense since deliveries to the area could take anywhere from two to three weeks to come in. That’s time that people in Alaska sometimes just don’t have the luxury of wasting.
Joseph Boyle
We trust that this show is going to have a good, long life considering that one of the people at its helm is Executive Producer Joseph Boyle. Boyle has an impressive resume of movies and various television shows, and one of his best work is arguably the Discovery Channel’s best show ever thus far, Deadliest Catch. Along with his team of producers, Boyle won a Primetime Emmy for the show in 2015 and has also been nominated for other years.
Just like McGyver
Many people are comparing Greathouse and Anderson to McGyver, the highly inventive 80s television character. So far, the building duo has built an unstoppable tow truck, a survival pod from an airplane, and an ATV from an old lawnmower. In the coming season, we should be seeing other builds such as a sawmill made from an old school bus and a swamp and hunting boat made from an old military transport.
