If you watch Good Morning America, the morning news show that airs on ABC, you have undoubtedly seen Lara Spencer doing her section on pop news. However, there might be a lot of things about her that you’re not yet aware of, even though you probably see her on a fairly regular basis. Truth be told, you might even be surprised to learn all of the different things that she is involved with. Below are five things that will give you better insight into who Lara Spencer really is.
1. She’s a native New Yorker
You would probably never guess this by hearing her talk today, but Spencer grew up in Garden City, Long Island. She even had that classic Long Island accent for a good portion of her life. However, she had always dreamed of going into journalism and even chose to get her degree in broadcast journalism. As a result, she realized that she could probably further her career by losing her native New York accent, so she worked on adopting a more professional tone. To this day, she can break into the classic New York brogue whenever she wants.
2. She first gained notoriety as a competition diver
During high school, she routinely competed in swim meets and also competed as a diver. She was so good that she gained a scholarship to Penn State University and was given honors for her diving ability during her college career. In fact, she loved being an athlete and thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to compete in the number of different sports during both high school and college.
3. She loves to give things new life
You might have seen her on her other long-time project, Flea Market Flip. This television project grew out of a real love for taking old things and making them new again. Spencer has had a long fascination with finding things at garage sales and flea markets and then transforming them into something completely different from what they were originally intended. She eventually worked on creating the show, Flea Market Flip, showcasing her love for making all things new and giving other people the opportunity to do the same.
4. She’s a television producer
She doesn’t just host Flea Market Flip, she also produces it. She’s also been involved in television production for a few other projects, mainly projects that involve the same theme as Flea Market Flip. When it comes to an ability to create a show, host it and produce it, she has all her bases covered, to say the least.
5. She’s a published author
Spencer’s talent doesn’t stop with television. She’s also a published author, writing a book called I Brake for Yard Sales. The truth is, the book went on to be the basis for a successful television show of the same name that was produced by Spencer as well. As you can see, she always has something that she’s working on and there’s always an interesting new project around the corner for her.
