Jaume Collet-Serra is a relatively camera shy film producer and director. You may be familiar with some of his work. They include “House of Wax” (2005); “Unknown” (2011), “Orphan” (2009), “Run All Night,” (2015), “Non-Stop,” (2014) and most recently, “The Shallows” in 2016. Fans may have had a little trouble finding out the details of his personal life and precisely who he is as a person. He’s an interesting guy who has kept himself out of the limelight in as much as is possible. We’ve found out more about him that we think you might like to know.

He prefers obscurity
Collet-Serra understands very well how the film industry works, yet he has his own sense of what the best approach to directing looks like. He knows that the top rated directors have achieved fame and that their works are known world-wide, but this is not one of his goals. He prefers to remain unknown. This allows him to focus on the purity of his craft. There is nobody to please but himself. He’s not concerned with what others think about his work and notoriety would just get in the way of producing and directing quality films. We think that he may be on to something, because his work truly does stand for itself. His goals are to grab the attention of the viewers and hold them from the start of the film to the finish. He’s been hitting his mark so far.
He’s worked on 4 films with Liam Neeson
Jaume has worked with the famous actor in four of the films that he has directed and produced. The two work very well together and it yields some pretty amazing results. We see this chemistry in “Unknown” (2012); “Non-Stop,” (2014) and “Run All Night” (2015). Most recently, Collet-Serra directed Neeson and Vera Farmiga in the mystery thriller “The Commuter” which is set for release in 2018. Neeson has the capacity as an actor for delivering the type of mystery and seat gripping action that Jaume is aiming for.
He directed TV commercials
This is a little known fact that we bet you didn’t know. Jaume directed music videos as well as tv commercials. He’s helped to move forward on air advertisements for some pretty popular mega-corporations. These include Verizon, Sony and Budweiser.
He owns a production house
Collet-Serra is not only a director, but he is also a producer. Along with funding from StudioCanal, he set up a small company that is known for delivering horror films on a low budget in the English language. The name of his production house is Ombra Films. He’s branching out on his own and promoting the genre that his has proven he is so very good at.
He’s helping Spanish hopefuls
Jaume Collet-Serra is a native of the country of Spain. He works with new Spanish filmmakers who are just getting started in the business. Jame recognizes the vast amount of talent that is coming out of Spain and he is doing everything that he can to encourage them to pursue their passions. He has partnered with producer Juan Sola, who has shared that Jaume sees the number of talented directors from is homeland. He enjoys serving as mentor for them and having his own production studio gives him the perfect platform for helping them to perfect their craft under his supervision.
