Five Things You Didn’t Know about Hallmark Channel’s “Home and Family”

The Home and Family show is just what it sounds like, a wholesome, no-nonsense show that focuses on a wide variety of subjects but will not leap wholeheartedly into other subjects that various talk shows seem to enjoy. It’s meant to be a much more balanced and family-friendly discussion about entertainment, household tips, beauty tips, and so on and so forth. They tend to have guest star everyday and they do changes hosts every now and again so as to keep the show updated and a little more engaging. If you can recall other talk shows the host that never seemed to change could be a little tiresome, but it was often because of the show’s content or what was allowed to happen within the confines of the show itself.

This show is quite different in that it will actively try not to offend anyone and will not succumb to sensationalism.

5. They will not talk about politics.

If you’re looking for another version of CNN then veer away from this show. They won’t bother going into the long, drawn out snafu that is politics. Many people find this to be refreshing and even pleasing considering that the constant grind of politics and religion can be draining even for the most stout-hearted individual.

4. They have to watch what they say.

There are certain words that they cannot use on the show. This is to keep it wholesome and clean as possible so as not to offend anyone and to keep the show on an even keel as is desired. It might seem a little prudish to others in this day and age but it is still matter of personal preference of those that run the show that the language be kept as civil as it can be.

3. The series originally ended in 1998.

Home and Family ended in 1998 but was revived in 2012. It was originally featured on the Family Channel but was relocated to the Hallmark Channel upon its return. The show has also seen its fair share of hosts and hostesses in its time as they’ve changed their people out occasionally to give the show a more fluid appeal.

2. Each show is recorded the day prior.

Heaven forbid the stars have to wake up at 4 am to get to work. Each show is taped prior to the day on which it’s shown so that scheduling conflicts can be avoided and the actors can get plenty of rest before they have to film the 2-hour long show.

1. Each guest star is asked to remain for the entire two-hour show.

The show has a guest on every day, and they are always encouraged to stay for the entire two hours. This might be difficult for some people given that two hours is a long time to do anything on TV. One thing is for certain, the chemistry between the hosts and the guest needs to be solid enough that they can stand each other for longer than that, especially since it’s not likely that the filming of each show takes only two hours.

It seems like one of those extraneous shows that you don’t need to pay attention to, but Home and Family is actually a nice change of pace.
