However, no matter what she’s been faced with, Aurora has never let anything get in the way of her chasing her dreams. Over the last few years, though, things have really started to turn around for Aurora and it looks like her time is finally coming. If anyone had doubts about her acting abilities, she’s ready to quiet all of the naysayers. Keep reading to learn five things you didn’t know about Aurora Perrineau.
1. Her Father Is A Successful Actor
Aurora isn’t the only person in her family who is passionate about the arts. Her father is Harold Perrineau, a successful actor who has been in the entertainment industry for more than 30 years. Many people will recognize Harold from his role in popular movies such as The Best Man and The Matrix. He has also appeared in several TV shows including Oz and Lost. Aurora’s mother, Brittany, was also a model. From what we can tell, Aurora has close relationships with both of her parents and they have been both been big inspirations to her over the years.
2. She’s In A Relationship
As Aurora’s popularity continues to grow, so does that number of people who probably want to slide into her DMs. However, those people should know that Aurora is off the market. She is in a relationship with actor Michael Vlamis. Although it’s unclear how long the two have been together, their relationship seems to be going strong. Michael has been acting professionally for more than a decade and he is best-known for playing Michael Guerin in the TV series Rosewell, New Mexico.
3. She Won’t Ever Play A Latina Character
Aurora is biracial, but in many people’s eyes, she is racially ambiguous which opens the possibility to lots of roles. Although she is often mistaken for a Latina, she has already made it very clear that she will never play a role intended for a Latina actress. According to Hip Latina, Aurora said, “So I get Latina a lot, which, obviously I’m not going to take on a role of a Latina woman, because I’m not Latina and that’s not the right thing to do. So I make it very clear that I’m not, and I normally don’t get the job, but I think it’s important for everyone to have representation and you shouldn’t be taking representation from someone else.”
4. She Accused Someone In The Industry Of Sexual Assault
In 2017, Aurora filed sexual assault charges against a screenwriter named Murray Miller who is best known for his work on the HBO series Girls. Girls creator Lena Dunham quickly flocked to Miller’s defense and claimed that Aurora’s allegations were false. Many were shocked by this because Lena had always positioned herself as the type of person who stood against sexual assault and leaned in favor of believing survivors. However, at the end of 2018, Lena wrote an article for The Hollywood Reporter in which she apologized for how she handled the situation. In the letter, Lena said,
“You have been on my mind and in my heart every day this year. I love you. I will always love you. I will always work to right that wrong. In that way, you have made me a better woman and a better feminist…It’s painful to realize that, while I thought I was self-aware, I had actually internalized the dominant male agenda that asks us to defend it no matter what, protect it no matter what, baby it no matter what. Something in me still feels compelled to do that job: to please, to tidy up, to shopkeep. My job now is to excavate that part of myself and to create a new cavern inside me where a candle stays lit, always safely lit, and illuminates the wall behind it where these words are written: I see you, Aurora. I hear you, Aurora. I believe you, Aurora.”
Even after Lena’s apology, there has been a noticeable difference in the overall public opinion towards her. Many people are still disappointed by how she initially behaved towards Aurora.
5. She’s Passionate About Social Justice
Aurora is the kind of person who plans to use her platform to do much more than just keep people entertained. She isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in and has spoken out against racism and police brutality. Aurora is also a strong supporter of The Innocence Project which is an organization dedicated to overturning wrongful convictions.Lena Dunham
