Five Movie Scenes Where Syrup is the Main Character

Whether it’s golden, darker, sweet, sugar-free, or vegan, however that works, syrup in movies looks absolutely appetizing and somehow, just somehow, it can become the main character. It doesn’t last long since the actors tend to consume it quickly and in varying amounts, but the slow-moving, sweet nectar that is used as a topping by some and an addition to meals by most is something you don’t forget once it touches your tongue. That inherent sweetness is just something that sparks a memory no matter how long it’s been since you had it.

Of course so does stubbing your toe, but a memory of syrup is usually much nicer.

5. Pulp Fiction

So the syrup doesn’t have much of a presence in this clip but it does make an appearance and it is noticeable as Vincent goes to pour it over his stack of pancakes, all the while trying to get Jules to see the positive side of bacon. If the conversation had ended on the inherent virtues of swine and how good they taste then the syrup might have been a little more prevalent of a feature, but then the two have to get talking about how Jules is getting out of the hitman business.

4. Scream

It’s amazing how corn syrup can look like blood. Of course you don’t use just corn syrup for the recipe, as you do need to get the color right by using a few other ingredients, food coloring being among those. But if you mix it right then it can be pretty convincing, except for the fact that it will need to be liberally splashed over a person to simulate blood splatter and it needs to be warm. You know, because humans aren’t literally cold-blooded.

3. To Kill A Mockingbird

Some people like syrup, a LOT. This kid in To Kill A Mockingbird however drenches his entire plate in it as though he wants to marinate every little bite. When Scout decides to speak up about it she gets in trouble and it’s kind of funny. He is a guest after all and it’s agreed by many that if he wanted to douse the tablecloth with it and eat that then as a guest he’d be allowed. But this proves that some people just eat syrup as a habit instead of a pleasure.

2. Elf

Buddy is all about sugar, and he absolutely LOVES syrup. It’s the one ingredient he can’t seem to do without since he seems to carry some with him everywhere he goes. Yeah, that’s a little weird, but for a guy that comes from the North Pole and lives on sugary foods it seems par for the course. It’s still a mystery why people love this holiday classic so much but there’s no arguing with people’s desire to see it.

1. Super Troopers

This seems like a one-way trip down diabetic avenue if you want to be honest. Chugging just one bottle seems like it’d be enough to rot a couple of teeth out, but chugging multiple bottles seems like enough to just about close an artery or two. Ursula’s right. Why can’t they chug ketchup?

It’s sweet, it’s sticky, it’s gooood.
