Pools. We swim in them, we cool off in them, and occasionally, we do something ridiculously funny in them. No, not that. It has to be expected from time to time that a pool setting is going to be a place for hilarity and frivolity on a level that will quite naturally produce a moment, or moments, that are just downright funny. It’s hard not to feel playful in a pool. You feel lighter, bouncier, and overall more energetic when you hit the water. In the movies people seem to go nuts when they’re in the pool, as you’ll see in the clips below.
Here are few funny moments that took place poolside.
5. It’s just a game Focker!
How do you mess up meeting your fiancee’s parents for the first time? I’m sure breaking her sister’s nose with a volleyball isn’t high on the list, but it’s probably somewhere in the top fifty at least. Greg Focker makes all the wrong impressions when he tries to get along with his fiancee’s family, though it’s kind of hard to make the right one considering the fact that Pam’s dad Jack is already firmly set against anyone that doesn’t follow his strict traditions. Ironically he yells continuously at Greg to play harder, but when his daughter gets hurt, then it becomes just a game.
4. Squints and Wendy.
Ah poor Squints. The case can be made that the little guy that loves the older woman is fighting a continual uphill battle that he isn’t likely to win. Of course Squints didn’t really endear himself to Wendy after pretending to drown just so he could score a little action. Interestingly enough there’s a fun film fact during which the actress actually told her costar that by no means was he to try and slip her tongue. Somehow it seems that if he would’ve ignored this this advice her angry outburst would have been entirely genuine. And yet years later, Squints and Wendy still end up together. That is what’s call determination.
3. You’re an animal!
We’ve all had that one poor sap of a friend that will do most anything it takes to prove that he is in fact a part of the gang. Wiley is so desperate to prove his dedication to his friends that he does one of the dumbest things imaginable and quickly pays the price for it. But a few months in a body cast isn’t too much to worry over if your friends realize you’re down for anything, right? Um, I’ll get back to you on that one.
2. Where’s my bike?!
You might question this one, but it is a classic to anyone that grew up with Pee Wee Herman. The guy is so devoted to his bike that losing it for all of a day seems to unhinge him in a way that defies any and all logic. He probably weighs a hundred pound soaking wet and he decides to take on a guy that must outweigh him by a hundred pounds or more. Plus, for a little while it seems like he’s winning.
1. It’s no big deal!
It doesn’t help that Baby Ruth bars have nuts in them, not at all. Be honest, you would probably react the same way and scoot out of the pool as though the thing had suddenly grown teeth and was somehow motoring towards you. Spaulding of course is oblivious until it’s right in his face, at which point he screams like a little girl. And let’s not forget Carl’s reaction when he finds it. One big, healthy bite of course, as he then proceeds to look around for more. Smooth, Carl.
See? Pools are a lot of fun when there aren’t any strange brown logs floating around, or when you’re friend doesn’t fake drowning, or when you don’t go crashing through a maintenance shed. Jeez, when you put it that way pools seem a lot more dangerous than anyone realizes. But hey, it’s still good fun.
