Five Great Movie Scenes Involving Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

A grilled cheese sandwich is surprisingly hard to find in the movies. It’s such a simple sandwich but that’s kind of the thing about it, people want their sandwiches complicated for some reason. With grilled cheese it’s pretty simple. Butter up the bread, put the cheese in the middle, slap it on a griddle and rotate it until both sides are golden brown and the cheese is melted. There are a lot of variations on this sandwich and of course everyone likes to add their own spin on it. But quite honestly it’s one of the simplest sandwiches to make in the world.

Plus it’s great comfort food.

5. Chef

This goes back to the simplicity of the sandwich as it’s something you can make while talking to someone or trying to set up a Twitter account. You wouldn’t think that a lot of people who aspire to being a chef would want this kind of sandwich since it doesn’t take a lot of skill, but even chefs want something low-key once in a while. It’s not the healthiest sandwich but it’s far better than some.

4. Benny and Joon

This is one of those cases when innovation is the process by which someone learns how to do something they may or may not have done before. It’s very possible to make a grilled cheese this way but at the same time you have to be just a little careful that you don’t burn both sides in the process. If you’ve ever accidentally touched an iron then you know it can easily get hot enough to melt cheese.

3. Mr. Mom

When you take a dad that’s been working outside of the house for so long and make him into a house husband some adverse things are bound to happen. A kid’s grilled cheese could become an afterthought for instance when he simply slams the iron down and wiggles it around a little to melt it all up. It might have a funny burn mark on one side but the cheese should be melted and the kid should be happy. Right?

2. Hot Rod

So there’s no actual grilled cheese sandwich in this clip but again, those are kind of hard to find. But really, who would win in a fight between a grilled cheese sandwich and a taco? Honestly it seems like the sandwich would since one solid hit and the taco would go to pieces. It’s silly, it’s stupid, but it makes sense in very nonsensical way. You expected Shakespeare?

1. The Bicycle Thief

It’s an older movie but it does have a scene involving chewy cheese sandwiches and so it counts. It has more to do with the guy’s bicycle and how he’s going to find it so that he can get on with his life and his job, but overall there is a scene in which cheese sandwiches are involved.

That was kind of a run to the finish since honestly cheese sandwiches don’t seem to factor into the movies all that much.
