Have you ever seen the NBC television show called The Good Place? It was recently voted as one of the top 10 best shows on network television by TV Guide. This is a relatively high honor, and it isn’t one that most new television shows can claim to have ever received, so it makes most people think that there must be something worth seeing here. If you haven’t seen the show, you’re probably wondering what it’s about. The synopsis goes something like this. The main character, named Eleanor, dies and goes to the afterlife. She finds herself in Heaven as opposed to going to Hell, but she realizes that a mistake occurred somewhere along the way because she doesn’t believe she’s supposed to be there. If you can wrap your head around that part of it, you should also know that she has someone she’s close to her there who is trying to help her become the person that she was mistaken to be so that she can rightfully take her place in the afterlife. It’s an interesting concept, to say the least. If you think it sounds like it’s worth checking out, below are five of the best or most important moments from the second season.
1. Starting Over
This actually comes from the season two finale and by this time, Archangel Michael has basically figured out that Eleanor shouldn’t have been there to begin with. He has to decide what to do with her and everyone that’s been in on her secret the whole time. He comes up with a rather ingenious solution, although it’s probably not one that any person would be very happy with. He decides to send all of them back to Earth, as living human beings, in order to live out their lives again. That way, they have to earn the right to get back into Heaven.
2. It’s About Time
This is actually one of the age-old questions that people ask themselves, as well as the theologians, and they have for decades. People are always curious to know how time flows in the afterlife. In this episode, they try to explain it. It’s actually pretty interesting and comical, all at the same time. There is no doubt that people have a hard time wrapping their heads around the idea that time doesn’t flow in the same manner as it does here on Earth. You might say this explanation takes things to the next level.
3. Murder
One of the people that runs around with Eleanor and her other friends is Janet. If you’re wondering how Eleanor knows that she’s not quite in the right place, this is a scene that will give you all the answers you’ve been searching for. She and one of her friends actually lure Janet into what she thinks is a nice walk along the beach, with the intention of murdering her all along. Obviously, this probably isn’t something that a person sitting in Heaven would be thinking about, so you start to understand how Eleanor’s mind works and it’s downright scary at times.
4. Messing with Their Minds
In this episode, Janet is featured once again, this time with Michael. They both end up in the hot seat for interfering with the lives and minds of human beings. It’s not long before they get caught and when they do, they have to defend their actions and then face the consequences.
5. Derek
Sometimes, this is a show that can make you laugh and then at other times it makes you think. If you’re in the mood to watch a few clips that are on the funny side, this is the one for you. Basically, everything Derek does is funny and he brings a certain degree of levity to a show that could otherwise easily become far too serious for most people to handle.
There you have it. If you’ve never seen the show before, you might want to check it out. Many people that didn’t think they would be interested in it find out they can’t get enough out of it after just a couple of episodes. It definitely provides a fresh take on things and it’s original, something that a lot of television shows and movies have a difficult time being these days.
