Five Actors Who Should Play Pete Buttigieg in a Movie

We’re only halfway through 2019 and the upcoming 2020 presidential election has already been underway. Each party is already making the necessary preparations and candidates have stepped forward with the intention of running for the next president. Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Indiana. Running for presidency is a giant step for Buttigieg, and we admit that we like his guts. This upcoming presidential election will be one of the most interesting ever given the principal players involved. Pete Buttigieg may only be 37 years old, but he’s got tricks up on his sleeve. If Pete Buttigieg’s life and times were ever written for film, here are the 5 best actors we could think of that will do him justice.

1. Matt Damon

Damon already has a presidential look to him. Damon and Buttigieg even have something in common–they both went to Harvard. Although Matt Damon never graduated, he got fairly close. Damon always adds dimension to whatever character he plays, and if he were to play Buttigieg, he will give the character a ton of color and personality. We’ve seen Damon do a variety of genres, from action to drama, comedy to suspense thriller. Out of the many movies that Damon has done in his career so far, we’ve never seen him in a political film. It would be interesting to see Damon portray someone young and vibrant in politics. Buttigieg is not afraid to say what he thinks, and Damon is someone who definitely comes off that way as well. It should also be said that Buttigieg actually wants Matt Damon to play him in movies.

2. Tom Holland

We could totally picture this young actor play a younger version of Pete Buttigieg. Holland’s career has been great so far, but he hasn’t really done anything like what a Buttigieg movie might look like. It will be an interesting challenge, but it seems like a good match as well. There’s a charming charisma to Holland that’s similar to Buttigieg’s. Holland might be good in a film that shows Buttigieg’s time in the military. Holland would do particularly well in a war/military film because of his ability for drama. It’ll also give us all a reason to watch Holland with soldier’s uniform on. We’ve seen Buttigieg with his uniform on, and it’s a respectable sight to be seen. A movie about that time in Buttigieg’s life will definitely be more interesting to watch instead of just pure politics.

3. Mark Wahlberg

Marky Mark may not be a shoe-in for this role, but we believe he can pull off a serious politician. We’ve also seen Mark Wahlberg do military roles before, so we know that he can do that part of Buttigieg’s life. We can also definitely picture Mark Wahlberg play the role of Mayor of South Bend. South Bend, Indiana isn’t exactly a big metropolitan area. It would be interesting to see Buttigieg’s position and role as mayor played out by an actor like Mark Wahlberg. Buttigieg has personality, and that’s something Wahlberg isn’t short on. Wahlberg may be 11 years Buttigieg’s senior, but he still looks good even at his age. However fitting he might be for the role, casting Wahlberg might be a problem. He feels a certain disdain for celebrities that talk about politics or try to push political agenda. It might help that Wahlberg is a registered Democrat, but he does have relatively conservative views on some things. It will be Wahlberg’s challenge to set aside his personal politics if he were ever to play a politician in a movie.

4. Jake Gyllenhaal

There’s only one reason why we picked Jake Gyllenhaal for this role, and that’s his talent. Gyllenhaal has been active in the industry since his teenage years, and he’s grown into a mature and extremely skilled actor. Gyllenhaal has also done the soldier role, and it might be time for him to do a film that’s purely about politics and government. We also know that Gyllenhaal is a highly intelligent man, which is a good match for Buttigieg, who happens to be a Harvard graduate and a Rhodes scholar as well. What’s even more interesting is that if Buttigieg ever wanted to turn his biopic into a musical, he can very well do it with Gyllenhaal as the star. Gyllenhaal’s talents include music and song too. Although that’s not likely to happen with a Buttigieg film, we can still count on Gyllenhaal to pull through.

5. Michael Angarano

For some reason, we feel that Angarano has a Buttigieg vibe to him. Michael Angarano is a talented actor that’s quite experienced in the industry, but he’s not necessarily an A-lister. He’s been around long enough to be familiar, but he could give Buttigieg’s character a chance to shine because Angarano is not necessarily heavily tied to any particular film role. The 31-year old actor has done a variety of genres in the past, but we’ve most recently seen him in the hit TV show This is Us.Angarano does well in a drama setting, and we can imagine that a Buttigieg film will be mostly drama in nature. Angarano also has some seriousness to him that most politicians just have. It also helps that he already kind of sounds like Buttigieg to begin with. The challenge for Angarano would be to bring charisma into the role. All politicians exude some kind of natural charisma–it’s what draws people to them to begin with. If Angarano were to play Buttigieg in a film, he would have to transform his boy-next-door charm into a politician’s charm and get the masses to fall in love with him (Jake Gyllenhaal
