Fireman Sam is a popular television character who moves from one adventure to another. He’s been around for almost thirty years and his popularity is still as high as it was in the beginning. He lives in the town of Pontypandy which is a small Welsh village situated along the water. Fireman Sam is a part of the local fire brigade and they deal with the problems that the good townsfolk encounter. Although the cartoon is fun to watch, it is without a doubt the most dangerous kids’ show in the world and here are the reasons why.
Norman Price
Norman is a child character in the show that doesn’t seem to have a filter when it comes to controlling his wild antics. He is responsible for a lot of the dangerous mishaps that occur in Pontypandy. Norman is the only character that has red hair. His status as a ginger and additionally as a trouble-maker sends a negative message that reinforces some stereotypes about red haired people. There is a direct implication that red hair indicates “mischieviousness”along with being untrustworthy.
The town has too many dangerous incidents
If this were a real town, it wouldn’t be the ideal location to live. Pontypandy has an estimated population of 23 characters, but a quarter of them are firemen. It seems that with all of the problems that happen in the town that they must maintain a good sized crew to deal with the mayhem. While it’s understandable that the show is about a fireman and he should be out doing what firemen do, every episode deals with a situation that has a high potential for danger and tragic results.
Sam has evolved as an egotist
The focus has always been on Sam the Fireman but the latest evolution has cast the character as a vain man who always shines above the rest of the dedicated crew. The newest sam has good looks and he’s very aware of this. He always takes the credit without giving others their due and this doesn’t set a very good example for young viewers. Sam seems to crave attention and he goes to the forefront to get all of the glory which doesn’t belong to one character, but rather, the group who all risk their lives.
More changes in the series
Pontypandy has now been relocated from a small valley village to a seaside town. It is never explained how the entire town moved to a new locale and we’re not certain why the changes were made. There are things in the long-running series that just happen without rhyme or reason.
Is Fireman Sam safe for children to watch?
The most challenging aspects of Fireman Sam is that the show is very popular and people have loved watching it for nearly three decades. The changes occurred fairly slowly and over time so viewers gradually became accustomed to this, much like a frog placed in a pot of water heated slowly over a stove. The dilemma is that the show has morphed into something that promotes unhealthy values for children. This could be one of the most dangerous shows for young impressionable minds to view.
