Finding Dory Director Andrew Stanton to Direct Stranger Things Episodes

Talk about out of the blue (no pun intended).  Finding Dory director Andrew Stanton will be swimming in some murky water by taking on a couple of episodes of Stranger Things behind the camera.  Here’s the official announcement:

“Finding Dory” director Andrew Stanton will step behind the camera for two episodes of the second season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” Although the worlds of “Finding Dory” and “Stranger Things” couldn’t be more different, Stanton is just a big fan of the sci-fi series. According to Entertainment Weekly, he’ll helm the fifth and sixth episodes of the upcoming season, joining “Electrick Children’s Rebecca Thomas (Episode 7), executive producer Shawn Levy (episodes 3 and 4), and series creators Matt and Ross Duffer (episodes 1, 2, 8 and 9).

In the past I’ve nicknamed Stanton the “King of Pixar.”  He’s had his hand in the following movies for Pixar: Finding Nemo (Director), Finding Dory (Director), A Bug’s Life (Director) WALL-E (Director), all the Toy Story movies (writing), Monster’s Inc (writing).  This guy couldn’t be any more Disney if he tried.

He even directed John Carter which may go down as Disney’s biggest flop ever.  However, I find it interesting that Stanton will be taking on Stranger Things.  If you really think about it, this isn’t a huge stretch.  While it’s certainly unfamiliar territory,  the Pixar movies he’s directed have taken very serious and creepy tones at various times in the movies.

In any event, I’ll definitely be watching those two episodes.  I just wish Thomas Newman would do the music.
