When the comedy film ‘Home Alone was released in 1990, it was a huge hit and grossed $476.7 million at the box office on a budget of $18 million. It remains a popular family film that is regularly aired on television, often at Christmas. The main character in the movie is Kevin McAllister, who was played by Macauley Culkin. There have been many fans theories about the storyline of this film that suggest that there was more going on than the plot revealed in the movie.
Recently, another fan theory has come to light. According to this theory, Kevin actually dies in the film. The basis for this theory is the scene where Kevin’s mother, Kate, hitches a ride home with a polka band. The band is led by Gus Polinski who is played by veteran actor John Candy. Kate is distraught about leaving her son home alone and asks Gus if he has ever done something as bad as leaving his child home alone.
Gus’ response is that he once did almost exactly the same thing himself when he left his son alone in a funeral parlor all day. This sets Kate thinking about the danger her son is in alone at home and also makes her think of death. It is also this scene that has made fans wonder if Kevin did die in the film.
However, one factor that would disprove this theory is the fact that Kevin is also the main character in Home Alone 2 and Macauley Culkin reprised his role for the 1992 family comedy. If Kevin had died in the first film, then the second film would not have been possible.
It also poses the question of whether it is supposed to be the ghost of Kevin that completes the remainder of the film and is reunited with his family if Kevin has died at some point in the movie. For these reasons, it seems that this theory has very little to support it and that it is highly unlikely that Kevin dies in the film.
This is not the first time that fans have devised theories about the storyline or characters of the film. In fact, there are many different theories relating to this film franchise. One of the most popular is that Kevin’s dad, Peter McAllister, was actually a criminal. There are several reasons for this theory.
The first is that the family have a ridiculously large and expensive house and fans wondered how Peter McAllister could afford such an amazing property. The theories suggest that he was making money through criminal means. Secondly, when the burglar who is dressed as a policeman comes to their house to allegedly check their home security, Peter McAllister reacts badly and is very wary of the police. It is not the normal reaction of an innocent and upstanding member of the community.
Of course, there are fans who oppose this theory and give their own reasons for discrediting the claims of theorists. For example, they say that Peter McAllister cannot have been criminal as he phoned the police for help rather than calling on favors from criminal friends.
Regardless of whether or not the theories are true or false, Home Alone remains one of the most popular family comedies of all time.
